The autobiography of Neath's Keith Williams has been posthumously released. The lovely Keith enjoyed a successful Hollywood career as a writer and conceptualist - albeit out of the public gaze - but hid his light very much under a bushel, eventually returning to his homeland of Wales. Even then, Keith was reticent to talk about it for fear of appearing boastful. However, his friends at Spectrum TV - the Channel he named - persuaded him to give an interview and here he is talking about his Hollywood career with BBC Radio Wales host Roy Noble in 2019.

Keith sadly passed away, with so much more to give, in 2023. and is sorely missed by many.

Cawl is a Welsh stew that's wonderfully comforting and best made the day before serving.

What can you do in 2017 to improve the lives of others, right here, right now? Well, how about starting with just simply being present? Do you remember determinedly making resolutions at the start of the year? Well this feels like seeing them through with verve and commitment, instead of giving up by the end of January! This is the message of a book entitled 'Showing Up For Life'. Every day of your life, quite simply just be there! Put your heart mind and soul into everything you do then before you know it, you're making a difference to the lives of everyone around you; the people you work with, the people you meet, and in turn it will absolutely impact positively on the eventual person ' you'll ' become. It really is that simple.

Ray Milland. Born on this day 1907.

Born Alfred Reginald Jones

Died 10 March 1986 (aged 79) in Torrance, California, U.S

Occupations Actor & Film Director

To mark his birthday are starting a campaign to commemorate the life and career of one of Neath's most famous residents - Ray Milland. Welsh locations like Port Talbot/Pontrhydyfen have fondly remembered fine actors such as Richard Burton but there is scarcely a reminder of the life and works of the great Ray Milland. We will be asking Neath and Port Talbot Council to assist us in our campaign. The people of Neath should feel rightly proud of their famous resident who also served in the Military.

Today is Armed Forces Day 2024

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June, falling this year on 29 June.

It is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving personnel to Service families, veterans and cadets.

It also marks the culmination of a week of celebrations, beginning on Monday 24 June, when the public show their support and appreciation for the Armed Forces community. It also includes Reserves Day (26 June), which provides the country with an opportunity to recognise our Reserve Forces.

There are many ways for people, communities and organisations across the country to show their support and get involved. Use our interactive map to find your local event.

Supporting our Armed Forces
Showing support for the Armed Forces provides a much-valued morale boost for serving personnel, veterans and their families. You can find out more about what they are doing at home and around the world by visiting the official sites of the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.

Supporting our sailors, soldiers and aviators goes beyond Armed Forces Day. In fact, the Government, local communities and businesses across the UK have committed to supporting Armed Forces personnel past and present by signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant.

The UK Armed Forces defend the UK and its interests. They are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers, providing security and fighting terrorism.

Veterans
A veteran is anyone who has served in the HM Armed Forces at any time (including National Servicemen, Regulars and Reserves). Armed Forces Day celebrates their continued role within the military community.

You can find out more information about support for Veterans on the Veterans-UK website or by calling Veterans UK on 0808 1914 218.

Reservists
Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career to ensure that should their country require them, they would be ready to serve.

Cadets
The Cadet Forces (Sea Cadets, Volunteer Cadet Corps, Army Cadets, Air Cadets and the Combined Cadet Force) currently number over 135,000 cadets and 25,000 adult volunteers in more than 3,000 locations across the UK. The Cadet Forces provide the opportunity for young people to develop key life and career-building skills, and gain valuable vocational qualifications.

Families
Our Armed Forces couldn’t do their job without the incredible support of their family and friends.

Charities
Although Armed Forces Day is not a charitable event, the Armed Forces have the support of several UK charities and many local events will offer opportunities to support them. To find out more about Armed Forces charities please see here.

South Wales Listens...

Have you heard about South Wales Listens? 📧 South Wales Listens allows you to receive messages about crime, engagement events, appeals, prevention advice and general policing activity in your local area in a way that suits you.

It also allows you to tell your local policing team what concerns you in your local community – and enables us to listen to and act on those concerns. 👮‍♀️👮‍♂️

In addition to encouraging people to sign up to the service, our neighbourhood teams have been conducting face-to-face surveys throughout south Wales to find out what issues affect people most. The information will help inform and shape what we do to ensure we are meeting the needs of the public more effectively.
