Video Terminology Explained - What is a timelapse?

Think of a timelapse like hitting fast-forward on real life - clouds sprinting across the sky, a flower opening right before your eyes, hours becoming seconds - that is a timelapse!

They are commonly used to show changing environments over long periods of time and appear in a lot of TV and cinema.

If you are a fan of nature documentaries, then you definitely would’ve seen them!

They are created by either taking photos over a long stretch of time and editing them together into a video or by recording a long video and speeding it up.

The result is not only beautiful but can reveal hidden features of a scene that you wouldn’t notice in real time.
