🩷 100 miles in June For Refuge🩷
Update Day 4- Supporting women and children against domestic violence
I didn’t exactly start this challenge at full speed this year 😄
More of a steady, careful pace while managing health limitations and listening to my body.
So far: 16,000 steps (about 7–8 miles) 🌿
Not a fast start — but every step still counts.
And that’s really what this is about.
Not just miles.
But meaning.
This challenge is for survivors of domestic abuse — and for the strength it takes to rebuild life one step at a time.
Quietly. Slowly. Often unseen.
But still powerful.
Some days I’m moving well.
Some days it’s “snail with determination” mode 🐌
But I keep going anyway.
Step by step. Mile by mile.
💓 Every step counts. Every mile matters. And I’m still in this.
⸻
The reality behind it
Domestic abuse is far more common than many realise:
* 1 in 4 women in the UK will experience it in their lifetime
* Victims often endure abuse dozens of times before seeking help
* A domestic abuse call is made to police every 30 seconds
But abuse isn’t always visible.
It can look like control. Isolation. Financial restriction. Emotional manipulation. Fear that builds quietly over time.
⸻
And the global picture is even harder to take in.
Around 50,000 women and girls are killed each year by intimate partners or family members — about 137 every day.
Most of these tragedies don’t come out of nowhere.
They are the extreme end of patterns that often begin much earlier… and much quieter.
⸻
That’s why I’m walking.
For survivors. For awareness. For change.
And in a way, this challenge mirrors that journey too.
Some days are strong. Some days are not.
But I keep showing up in the way I can.
💓 Every step counts. Every mile matters.
