Ever wondered how the podcast actually works?πŸ‘‡ Let me clue you in, compadre!

πŸ”— First and most importantly, you hit the link in my bio to fill in a short application form

πŸ”You'll see all the key deets in said form

πŸ’Œ I'll send you a (very lovely) email to say hi!

πŸ“ We'll collab on some guiding questions for your episode (so we don't get too off track/lost)

πŸ—“οΈ You'll pick a date and time that works to record (in-person or remotely)

🎧 OPTIONAL but ideally you'll listen to at least a bit of an episode so you know what to except (a surprisingly high % of guests have never listened before recording)

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» Around 2 weeks after recording I'll edit and start promoting your episode

🧑 You'll share the love by leaving a bit of feedback/review/donation to help keep INNER AVENUE alive for the next season

FYI - I'm not currently planning Season 04 but you can definitely apply. I'll get back to you when the time comes!

NEW FORMAT ALERT πŸ’Œβœ

Did you know you can feature through writing?

This podcast is absolutely NOT about delivering a TEDx level performance, but hey, some people have a preference to partner with the artistic medium of pen and I still want them to have a route for getting involved!

Sending the biggest thank you to busy bee Jack Lewis - Head of Comms at John Hansard Gallery - for crafting the first ever written feature πŸ’₯

Ep04 is LIVE ✨

It was such a pleasure to chat about community, empowering adults to make and create art, finding a sense of home in Southampton, and much more with Vera Chiu the artist!

Vera is an abstract artist, educator, and designer originally from Hong Kong. She shared some brilliant philosophies on how everyone can embrace creativity in everyday life, but I also started to understand why a key part of her work is inviting people to 'take part' through touch. Vera has a gift for following feeling and expressing herself in a way that builds, layer on layer, just like her work.

I highly recommend tuning in and checking out her show 'Two Oceans Apart' this Spring!

Thanks to these courageously soft, bravely beautiful, warm and wonder-filled women, I now know what it feels like to be heard and to rhythmically project your voice quite unexpectedly in a room filled mostly by total strangers πŸ˜‚

A huge thank you to and our Noisy leader, , (and the spirits of the Crawford Room) for creating and holding space for us to explore our voices on and in the build up to 🧑🐧

🌊Two Oceans Apart ζ€ιš”ε½Όε²Έ πŸ›«A sojourn from Hong Kong to Soton

Hong Kong artist, Vera Chiu proudly presents new paintings in her solo exhibition, Two Oceans Apart, at The Dart Centre. In this series, she explores the true meaning of distance. A journey from Hong Kong to Southampton that was set out nearly two years ago, leaving home to discover a dissimilar land. Has it evolved into a settlement, a comfort zone or a changed self?

Through her usual scraps and scratches of abstract paint, she finds herself creating new patterns with fresh materials on blank canvases. The colours of greens and blues illuminate from the surface, creating a shimmering of doubts, happiness and fears. Join Vera on the sojourn to explore the feelings of belonging, identities and emotional rollercoaster in a strangely familiar place.

THIS is what it's all about 🧑

I posted a story recently and nearly all of you said you had no idea if I made any money from the podcast.

Like our guest Alan in episode 01 this season - you have to really think about your 'why'. Feedback like this makes all the time and energy worth it, and it's always always welcome!

You'll probably notice there are currently no adverts on the pod - this is partly why I currently make ZERO £££s from IA.

To keep the podcast alive (but more importantly, my newly solo self) I'm thinking about making my marketer brain available to more local organisations aka freelance. I wanted you to know, because you might start to notice very short segments promoting that!

If you do happen to have listened and fancy contributing in your own way, you can find super speedy feedback form OR the new donation link here: https://linktr.ee/inneravenue πŸ”—

Thank you all so much for your support so far, and looking forward to creating more fun for the future.

🚨 Hedge End Choir: Don't Miss Out - Join Now Before the Waiting List!

We keep our choir groups to a maximum of 100 singers. It's a sweet spot – big enough for a brilliant sound, but small enough to keep things friendly and personal. We're down to the last 10 spots in our Hedge End group, so if you're thinking about joining, now's the time before we start a waiting list!

Even the Bees are harnessing their creative nectar 🐝🍯

This photo was taken by the owner of the hive. The beekeeper forgot to put the frames in which the bees collect honey, and the bees built their own architecture from the honeycomb, which takes into account natural ventilation, so that the air can flow freely and maintain a stable temperature. This is the heart!

Time for a reintroduction πŸ‘‹

Greetings and salutations, I'm Daisy, host of INNER AVENUE - a little podcast where we get under the skin of creativity in Southampton!

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» This city is my hometown - I was literally born in the Inner Avenue, 31 years ago to be exact (and I should be because on weekdays I'm a Digital Marketer at a national charity dedicated to maths of all things).

βͺ Like everyone, there are lots of invisible twists and turns on my journey, but a real pivotal point was getting kicked off Barton Peveril's art foundation in 2013 (apparently I was too likely to fail). Lol.

🧑 I was a very shy child and anxious adult. Public speaking and things that I do for the podcast don't come naturally to me, I challenge myself aaalll the time - it's the only way to transform!

β™ŸοΈ I've never been a fast player in this 'life' game! I did a degree in Interior Architecture on my second go at uni...then became a 27 year old Marketing apprentice. And no I didn't plan that, I just "created" the opportunity.

πŸ“ I lived in Bristol for 8 years and never saw myself back in Southampton. COVID returned me, but the city's changes and creative community kept me.

😷 People saying "A creative" makes my skin crawl whether it's about a person or a piece of work. Creativity and creative action/behaviour/thinking etc do not happen in the singular. And it's definitely not an elite title.

πŸ›Έ I'm super into Astrology as a tool for self-discovery. It got me through some hard times so I'm not sorry in the slightest!

I could go on, but I'm all about conversations and I want to know what YOU're about. Come say hi and connect this Thursday Guildhall...

We'll be talking all about turning creativity into commercial businesses with a fab local panel including yours truly!

Very excited/anxious to take to the "stage" with Edgar once again next Thursday πŸ‘€πŸ”½

I've spoken to so many of you about bringing different creative circles together, but what about how the city itself can collaborate and support US?!

This is exactly what we're going to be exploring down Mettricks Guildhall with RSA and Solent University, Southampton. Films, myself, Edgar and Carswell Gould will be sharing our stories to get the conversation started on Nov 28th from 5.30pm 🍿

Tickets are free so come on down!
(I'd love to see a familiar face in the crowd...eek, scary)
