(I haven’t posted in 6 months whoops) I went to Plymouth the other day to explore my love for English pirate history, video games & now jellyfish apparently.
I’ve been obsessed with a video game (Uncharted) the story is based on a real life pirate called Sir Francis Drake from the 1500’s. He was an awful human but his story is fascinating.
He lived in Plymouth most his life and today the whole town is named after him, even the shopping centre. Known by the Spanish as “El Draque” The Dragon” He was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the world (second in the world)
He was basically privately hired by queen Elizabeth the 1st to map the world & steal everything he could along the way. Mostly from the Spanish, he roughly stole in today’s equivalent about £700 million in gold & silver.
A straight up murder, slave trader & member of parliament.
Yet was knighted despite all this.
The story of the game is based on the idea that he faked his death to run off with part of the money.
