🏰 The Turreted Corner — 180 Years of Southampton

This striking building at St Mary Street and Northam Road holds nearly two centuries of stories.

1830s — The Red Rover
Long before it stood as we see it, a pub named The Red Rover occupied this spot — named after the famous Southampton‑to‑London stagecoach.

1850s — The Bridge Tavern
The elegant white‑brick building we know today was built. Renamed for the railway line running directly behind it, it was designed to stand out: rounded bay corner, conical turret roof, arched windows and fine stonework — a true Victorian landmark.

The Six Dials Years
For over 100 years it stood at the centre of the bustling Six Dials junction, serving dock workers and locals as their neighbourhood pub — until major road changes reshaped the area.

1982 — New Chapter
It closed as a pub but was saved, reopening as The Bridge Gallery — an art space that kept the building alive and in use.

Today
The distinctive exterior remains beautifully preserved, while inside it has been thoughtfully converted into homes. No longer a tavern — but still the same beloved corner landmark.

🏛️ 200 Years — One High Street Landmark

Nestled in the heart of Southampton’s historic Old Town Conservation Area, this beautiful building has stood on the High Street since the early 1800s — over two centuries of history woven into every brick.

Its story has unfolded in chapters:
✅ Once The Clarence Bar — a beloved mid‑century meeting place
✅ Then The Bier Keller — legendary through the 1970s, 80s and 90s
✅ Since 2010 — home to Coriander Lounge, bringing award‑winning flavours to our city

Generations have gathered here — and today, the tradition continues. Where Georgian heritage meets fresh flavour — still welcoming, still thriving. ✨
