What We Wished We Could Be is now available online via Kodak and Directors Notes.

The film explores love, sacrifice and the devastating legacy of the contaminated blood scandal.

Grounded in lived experience, it’s a story that demanded care and delicacy with an incredible team behind it. A film we’re proud to now share more widely.

Familiar Stranger has been selected for London Short Film Festival.

To see the film resonate on home turf is incredibly affirming.

LSFF has long been a platform for daring, conversation-starting work, and we’re proud to be part of this year’s programme.

We can't wait to share more with you very soon!

2025 saw us can our second feature film, do a co-pro with the BBC, secure more exciting global distribution for our films (news coming soon), produce our first commission for TV, land our first theatre commission, and bring two more films through the film fund.

As an entirely indie company that’s been chipping away for years - we’re incredibly proud of that. We close 2025 with gratitude and excitedly welcome what is set to be our biggest year yet.

A massive thank you to everyone who has been on the ride with us - the investors, directors, producers, writers, actors, crew, and everyone in between. We quite literally couldn’t do it without you.

See you in 2026!

"Once I’ve broken my back to make something, I’m not going to waste the opportunity to get it seen. I aim to submit to at least 100 festivals." - Chris Overton, Founder of Slick Films.

At Slick, we don’t just make films, we fight for them to be seen.

What’s the point of pouring everything into a story, only for it to sit on a hard drive? Festival submissions are expensive, yes, but if you’re serious about your work reaching people, that cost needs to be in your budget from day one.

Chris puts it plainly: It’s a numbers game. 100 submissions might get you 10 selections if you’re lucky, and those 10 could lead to a sales agent, a wider audience, or your next big opportunity.

It’s not just about the creation.

It’s about the journey.

You owe your work visibility.

Budget for distribution. Budget for impact.

At Slick, storytelling is at the core of everything we do, and during the holidays, that mission feels even more powerful.

This season, we’re reminded that the most meaningful stories aren’t always the loudest. They’re found in quiet moments, unexpected kindness, resilience in adversity, and the bonds we share.

Thank you to everyone who’s championed bold, human-centred storytelling with us this year, from the filmmakers, funders and festival programmers, to the audiences who watched, laughed, gasped and cried.

Here’s to the power of stories that move us.

Merry Christmas from all of us at Slick.

PETER.

A story about memory, identity, and the quiet ways we find our way back to each other.

Peter is a deeply personal, slice-of-life short exploring the fragile bond between a father with alcohol-induced Alzheimer’s and his trans son, now his carer.

As the roles of parent and child reverse, both are forced to confront who they are - and who they have been. For Peter, the challenge is clinging to a sense of self as memory fragments. For Elliot, it’s reconciling a past where his father never fully embraced his identity.

The film lingers in the tension between forgetting and acceptance, vulnerability and connection and asking whether reconciliation can come not through remembering, but through finally seeing each other as they truly are.

Peter is a story of dignity, love, and what it means to be fully acknowledged in our most authentic state.

We're proud to share that The Edge of Existence has won the Audience Choice Award, a powerful moment for everyone involved.

This project began as a bold vision, built on truth, tension, and human connection.

To see it recognised by the people who matter most, the audience, is both humbling and exhilarating.

Thank you to every viewer, voter, and believer.

You helped this story reach its full potential.

Last week, our short film LARGO screened in one of the most iconic institutions in the UK: the Houses of Parliament.

For us, this wasn’t just a screening; it was a moment.

A room filled with MPs, journalists, charity leaders and filmmakers discussed the refugee crisis, the media's role in shaping public perception, and the responsibility we hold as storytellers.

The fact that LARGO was at the heart of that discussion proves that storytelling still has the power to shift narratives and influence minds.
