Had a great morning at Rickinghall Classic Car Meet, Autojumble & Rummage Event, plenty of folks having a look around at all the cars, and of course the van and radios. Themed today for ‘car radios’. Next outing is Motor-Fest in Reydon on the 29th, although looking forward to our trip on the Ross Revenge tomorrow!

Looking to change the display from time to time to include tape recorders and other interesting items. I have several reel to reels and cassette radios. These don’t seem to be old to me, but to a lot of folks now they hold memories and are of interest. Also managed to get a Sharp VZ 2500E LP recorder player/cassette/radio boom box for display. Currently not working but there is life, so I will investigate further, it would be great to have this working! It’s huge at 70cm wide, and weighs around 16kg. Next job is to build some new storage shelving so I can see what we have got!

One last purchase this year is this lovely Oceanic ‘Pilote’ EM34 made in Paris in 1958. My intention is to light it up in the van, as they do look nice illuminated. I have a replacement k**b to make that’s all.
Hopefully will be ready for Felixstowe Museum 2025 opening if we get an invite.

Sending seasons greetings to you all, Merry Christmas and hope to see some of you in 2025. Cheers Dave 🏴‍☠️📻🎶👍

With all my events done for this year, on this blustery evening I am just having a look at some of my new purchases for the display for next year.
A pretty 1957 Regentone ‘Double Two Mk1’ radio, a valve set which was both battery and mains powered.
Then an Internet Radio ‘10 all transistor’ made in Hong Kong in 1965…nothing to do with the internet as we now know it.
Next a great design, a Dynatron ‘Tourist’ (TP15) radio from 1960, complete with case and earphone for listening on the go!
A small Hong Kong made Ekco ‘Elf’ from the mid 1960’s.
Lastly I managed to build a better and now working 1959 Kolster Brandes (KB) Starlight Rhapsody combining the best parts from two radios.
It’s always good to have some new things in the Moggy so I’ll keep an eye out for more, meantime I’ll hopefully see some if you out and about next year. I will post up when I know where that may be.
Cheers for now,
Dave

Sunday 3rd November, a great day at The Long Shop Museum, Leiston at their ‘Final Fling’. Many thanks to Fraser and his team, and good to see Martin Wallis and Keith Jackson, the latter came to look at some of his old radios, and some of my new ones. The little 1971/72 World Radio Courier Mini-Mate car radio was a hit, now tested and it works well.
Looking forward to some outings next year, and returning to the Long Shop again!

Well it’s been a good year for the Moggy and radios. About 70 hours spent chatting to folks about Radio Caroline, old radios and of course the Moggy van.
Felixstowe Museum was a great venue back in March, Mangapps Railway and the last Sweffling Bygones being next attended. Mr G’s was a success in May with 60 radios at the request of Barry James (but not the Moggy), and soon after Sotterley Country Fair. Friston Cars on the Green was one we would like to repeat as was Thorpeness Classic Vehicle Rally.
Many thanks to my friends Brian Nicholls and Charles Wright of the Felixstowe and Offshore Radio Group, who invited us along to The Hut in early September for their Heritage Days Exhibition.
Our last show this year will be at the excellent Long Shop Museum in Leiston, for the ‘Final Fling’ on November 3rd from 10:00, so come along and see the display if you are in the area that weekend.
We now have ten radios with Caroline ‘on the dial’ the latest being this large 1966 Bush VTR133 acquired as it happens today! Many thanks again to Charles Wright for the heads up on this one.
Anyway I will post up some pictures of the Long Shop after the event, in the meantime keep it Caroline!

PS next year in the summer I may be tempted to get some of the bigger Bakelite sets down from the shelves when we come to Southwold hopefully last Sunday 25th July, just for a change…..

Come and have a look at some old radios and nostalgic radio stuff from the Pirate radio days!

Had a lovely day out last Sunday at Southwold Railway Station, and this week will be there again but just with an engine. Next outing for the radios will be at The Randolph Fun Day in Reydon on Monday 26th August. Undecided whether to go to Thorpness Cricket Club on the day before…..
Just taken delivery of this Fidelity ‘199’ transistor, so named to get around the Government’s displeasure at manufacturers having Radio Caroline marked on the dial, as she broadcast on 199 MW at the time… this takes the collection’s ’Caroline sets’ to ten in total….

Looking forward to tomorrows Classic Car and Bygones Rally at Southwold Boating Lakes, Sunday 28th July. IP18 6BH. The van is loaded with just over fifty radios, including this beauty, a rare Bush MB60 valve radio recently acquired from a friend in Wiltshire.
Hoping for a fine sunny day, no stationary engines this year but other friends with Classic Cars will be attending, maybe see you there 😊👍

A great day at Sotterley Country Fair last Sunday 23rd June. Many thanks to Rachel Bunn and her team for organising such a great day!
Another purchase for the display arrived today…..a Bush TR132 from 1966, featuring Radio Caroline marked at 199 on the Bandspread scale. Many thanks to Brian Nicholls and Jan Sayah for the heads up on this one.
This radio will be coming along on our next outing which is to the Long Shop Museum in Leiston on 7th July.

Two of our radios went live on the Radio Caroline ‘Ross Revenge’ Crowdfunder website page today. Both are Bush TR82c’s and were made between ‘61 and ‘63. Recapped and polished.

The Radio Collection got an outing last Wednesday evening 22nd May, to the Radio Caroline 648 Support Group 60th birthday meeting at Brandon. Barry James asked me to bring them along to Mr G’s Bowling Centre. Sadly the Moggy had to stay at home, but it’s amazing that nearly all these radios fit in the Moggy. I had put a few extra ones in for this occasion.
Great to meet so many Radio Caroline fans especially Jan Sayah and interesting folks, Chris from Wireless of the Week being one of many.
Terry Bateman from Rega had bought along a Planar P2 turntable, a nice Roger’s Cadet 3 valve amp and a Rega amp. All Rega products made in England to the highest quality in Southend on Sea.
A fantastic night had by all with great food, Stephen Foster’s music quiz along with Caroline presenters Steve Dack, Rob Proctor, Rob Ashard, Josh Holmes Bright, Dave Foster, Barry James, and Emma Jayne from Caroline Flashback….
The next outing is in the Moggy again at Sotterley Country Fair at Sotterley Hall near Beccles NR34 7TY on June 23rd.

We had a great day out at the Mangapps Railway Museum at Burnham on Crouch with the Moggy and Radios today, at their ‘Radio Caroline’ themed event with Ray Clark giving an illustrated talk on the history of RC. Good to meet up with several of the Presenters of Caroline and the new Community FM/Online ‘Caroline Coastal’. So good to see young and old presenters so enthusiastic! Station Manager Peter Moore was also there.
I had a good time looking around this excellent museum, full of local history and station buildings from the MSLR (Middy).
Both radios and the Moggy got a lot of attention. Hopefully to be repeated later in the year.
Many thanks to John the owner for his generosity, and to Chris for the excellent bacon sandwiches and coffee.
