"Hi, I’m a possum, and I’m really not here to cause any harm. In fact, I help more than you might think. Each night, I can eat up to 2,000 ticks, along with other insects that spread disease. I also help control snake populations, even the venomous ones. My body is tough enough to survive bites from rattlesnakes and coral snakes, and yes, I even eat them like a snack.

What’s more, my blood has something special in it that scientists have used to develop treatments for snake bites. Without me, there would be more pests, more snakes, and fewer cures that save lives. So if you see me, please don’t hurt me, let me raise my babies.

We’re out here quietly doing our part to keep the world safer for everyone."

In the deserts of Iran lives a snake with a trick as cunning as it is chilling — the Spider-tailed Horned Viper. At the end of its tail wriggles a perfect imitation of a spider. Birds swoop in, thinking they’ve found an easy meal. Instead, they become the meal.

Found this one during a walk and it let me hold it for honestly a really long time— such a cutie!
