Hello everyone, Frederick from Zen Travel UK here with today’s travel alert.
Big news from Gulf News: Emirates has announced a major new rule affecting all flights, starting October 1, 2025.
The key change? Using any kind of power bank is now prohibited onboard Emirates aircraft.
Here’s what travellers need to know:
You may carry one power bank under 100 Wh, but you cannot use it to charge your device in flight, nor recharge the power bank itself via aircraft systems.
The power bank must remain in your hand luggage (not checked baggage), and must be stored in the seat pocket or under the seat — not in overhead bins.
Emirates assures travellers that in-seat charging outlets will still be available, so make sure your devices are fully charged before takeoff.
Why the change? The airline says it stems from a safety review that flagged increasing risks associated with lithium battery incidents in aviation.
What this means for you if you’re flying with Emirates:
Don’t try to charge via your power bank mid-flight.
Bring only one power bank under 100 Wh, with its capacity clearly marked.
Keep it in your cabin bag and within reach, stored properly under the seat or in the front pocket.
Always charge devices before you board — don’t rely on your power bank mid-air.
Here at Zen Travel UK, we’re keeping our ears tuned to more updates from Emirates and other carriers — so you can fly safer and smarter.
