Ashton town centre is set for a summer boost with a packed programme of free monthly family-friendly events and the launch of a brand-new artisan market.

Firstly, Tameside Council has teamed up with award-winning Independent Street to bring a new monthly artisan market to the town, launching on Sunday 19 July (11am–4pm) and running on the third Sunday of each month.

The market will feature around 70 independent traders, offering everything from street food and baked goods to handmade crafts, alongside live music, and children’s activities.

A popular summer event celebrating local food, drink and community spirit is set to return to Stalybridge this June.

Stalybridge Street Fest will take place in Armentieres Square on three evenings throughout the summer, bringing together street food traders, artisan producers, entertainment and a vibrant festival atmosphere in the heart of the town.

The first event takes place on Friday, June 12, with further Street Fest evenings scheduled for July 10 and August 14. Each event will run from 5pm to 9pm.

A Mossley convenience store owner is celebrating after winning £5,000 towards a major store refresh as part of Premier’s nationwide celebrations marking the achievement of reaching 5,000 stores across the UK.

Raja Brothers Premier, located on Stamford Road in Mossley, was selected as one of the winners after entering a prize draw at one of five reginal Premier 5,000 roadshow events held earlier this year.

The roadshow brought together independent retailers, customers and supplier partners at venues across the country to celebrate the success of local convenience stores and the communities they serve.

Tameside Council bereavement officers Ashley Gibson and Andrew Cochrane will join colleagues from across Greater Manchester in a 172ft sponsored abseil to raise funds for the charity Once Upon a Smile.

The charity provides vital emotional and practical support to bereaved children, young people and their families, helping them navigate some of the most difficult times in their lives.

The pair signed up for the challenge, which will involve abseiling down the Trafford Palazzo tower at the Trafford Centre on 27 June 2026, alongside fellow professionals who support families every day through loss and grief.

THE CONTROVERSIAL Godley Green Garden Village scheme has taken a step further after a planning application for a ‘spine road’ was submitted.

That would see agricultural buildings associated with Greenside Farm demolished.

Developers behind the project which will see up to 2,150 homes built on land around Mottram Old Road in Hyde have pushed for the main route through the Eastern Village segment.

They have also supplied images of what areas may look like when construction is completed.
