Some shots from our first couple of days up at Defender Burghley Horse Trials 🐎

We absolutely love Burghley week – the beautiful horses, meeting local businesses on their stands, catching up with people in the press tent, meeting riders and chatting about the course… and generally soaking up that incredible Defender Burghley buzz.

And one of our favourite things is handing out the magazine and seeing the reaction to our big Burghley feature! Inside, you’ll find our piece from Press Day with course designer Derek di Grazia, Event Director Martyn Johnson and Event President Miranda Rock, our fun Insider’s Guide to Burghley, plus the lowdown on some of the brilliant local businesses you’ll find around the showground.

We loved putting it all together and hope you enjoy reading it – do pick up a copy if you spot us!

And, naturally, there’s been time for a little Burghley treat too… a glass of Pol Roger! 🥂

Hello, September! 🍂

It feels rather good to have reached a new month – and today really has had that unmistakable new-term feeling about it. This week’s jobs include buying school shoes (tick!) and making sure everyone is vaguely ready for the weeks ahead…

And we have a brand-new magazine out! It’s an absolute bumper issue – 164 pages, packed with so much to read, discover and enjoy.

For us, every issue feels like a mini-adventure: exhilarating and slightly apprehension-making, with so much to discover and somehow fit into the pages. We begin each month with our ‘runners & riders’ – commissioned articles and ideas – then arrange them on the flat plan, giving us a rough map of where we’re going. But, like all inspiring journeys, there are discoveries along the way: people we meet, places we visit and stories that simply have to be featured.

This month, we’ve met auctioneer Colin Young, celebrating 40 years in the business. We joined the exciting build-up to Defender Burghley Horse Trials, which takes place this week, from Thursday to Sunday. We were lucky enough to drive the cross-country course and glimpse the preparations behind one of the great events of the year – and we hope we’ve captured some of that infectious anticipation in these pages.

September also brings Northants & Rutland Open Studios, opening artists’ doors across the region and revealing an extraordinary wealth of original work close to home. It’s a real favourite of ours – local, creative and rooted in the people and places we know and admire across our patch.

There’s so much more inside the magazine, too. Read it in print or online, find us on the Living Mags app or enjoy the issue on Readly. Then settle in and enjoy our biggest issue of the year! 🤎

Best-Dressed Window - A fantastic collab between Defender Burghley Horse Trials and Shop Stamford

Stamford on show! Enjoy the Defender Burghley Horse Trials’ Best Dressed Window Competition 2026 in partnership with .

Lots of our fabulous local retailers have joined forces with one of the country’s biggest sporting events to shine a spotlight on the town we all love. Window displays should be in place by the end of today (Monday 17 August) and stay up until Sunday 6 September, the final day of the Defender Burghley Horse Trials.

We were just in town and took these shots of a few of the wonderfully creative local shops involved! 👏👏👏

Judging takes place on Wednesday 19 August, so keep an eye on Defender Burghley Horse Trials’ socials for news of this year’s winner.

We’ll also be announcing the news in our September issue, which is out next week.

ALSO - NEW for 2026 there’s a further prize for the best window as voted for by the general public. Called the People’s Favourite, it is going to be voted for online by you! You can vote online from the shortlist once it’s announced until 28 August.

The August issue of Stamford Living and Rutland Living is out now! ☀️

Summer is in full swing, and this month’s magazines are packed with inspiring homes, beautiful gardens, delicious food, local history, health and wellbeing, fashion, days out and all the very best of our area.

Inside, you’ll find the latest from the Rutland Flower Show (not long to go now!), discover the beautiful garden featured in A Garden that Belongs, learn about Hidden Food Tours, sip your way through our favourite summer cocktails and take a look at our brand new Country Rambles walking book (selling like hot cakes – thank you so much for all your support!). We also catch up with the teams at Elizabeth Stanhope, Stamford Radiators, Stamford Sauna Club, YourCore Reformer and LUXE Skin Lab, call in at Birch Tree Café, explore the gorgeous Thyme Cottage in Bulwick, meet the experts at The Howling Dog Company, visit Copthill School, and celebrate summer style, interiors and so much more.

As always, you’ll also find our packed What’s On guide, local news, music, shopping, education, family ideas and plenty of inspiration for making the most of August.
