🎖 We’ve been nominated!

The Muster Point has been shortlisted for a Stevenage Together Award, not sure if it’s for Best Dressed Sleeper, Most Brews Consumed Before 10am, or Outstanding Achievement in Bacon Sandwich Appreciation 🥓☕️

But on a serious note, The Muster Point is only 9 months old, and to already be recognised for what we’re building together is an incredible achievement.

From a small idea over a brew to a growing community that supports veterans across Hertfordshire and beyond, this nomination is as much yours as it is ours.

📣 Sunday Muster Update 🇬🇧

Just a quick heads-up — there’ll be no Sunday Muster this weekend as The Toby Carvery is currently closed for refurbishment.

Our Sunday Musters will return in the new year, and we’ll share updates once dates and locations are confirmed.

Proud moment for The Muster Point 🇬🇧

Great to see the The Comet shining a light on our upcoming Guard of Honour at the Stevenage Old Town War Memorial.

This is something I’m personally honoured to organise, a group of local veterans standing watch to make sure those who gave everything are never forgotten.

Remembrance isn’t just about looking back, it’s about passing the torch to the next generation, keeping these traditions alive, and showing our community’s respect in the days leading up to Remembrance Sunday.

Huge thanks to everyone taking part and to the council, cadet forces, and local supporters helping to make this happen.

☕ Tuesday Morning Muster – Sunshine, Stories & New Faces 🌤️

Another great morning down at Fairlands Valley Lakes, two new faces joined the ranks today, adding to the growing Muster Point family. It’s always good to see new veterans finding their way to the table, swapping stories, and feeling that bit of camaraderie again.

Steve wasn’t with us this week as he’s been having some health issues, but we made sure he wasn’t forgotten. The lads all signed a card for him, complete with a few pictures of tanks to keep him smiling! 🫡💪

Get well soon, mate, the brews won’t taste the same without you.

Huge congratulations to our good friend Ger Fowler and the Veterans in Crisis Sunderland team for winning Gold at the English Veterans Awards 2025 🏆

Ger was crowned Role Model of the Year last night – recognition that couldn’t be more deserved. His tireless dedication to supporting veterans in Sunderland and beyond continues to inspire us all.

Alex Harrison – Grenadier Guard, Afghan veteran, and one-eyed wonder – remembers the first time he got mortared in Iraq.

Walking to the Naffi with his mate Chris, 18 years old, hungry, and suddenly watching mortar trails overhead… only to find out the rounds landed miles away. 🤦‍♂️

From “panic dive into the dirt” to realising they’d overreacted, it’s a perfect example of how veterans laugh off the madness that would terrify anyone else.

✨ Setting the Standard in Hertfordshire ✨

Today I had the privilege of meeting with senior officers and Armed Forces Champions at Stevenage Borough Council.

All I can say is the work already happening behind the scenes has exceeded my expectations. 🚀

This isn’t just talk – it’s action with generational impact:

✅ Policy changes that make a real difference
✅ Frontline worker training to better understand the Armed Forces community
✅ Collaboration across services and sectors
✅ Partnerships bringing together GP surgeries, outreach teams, Armed Forces organisations, and healthcare providers

This joined-up approach goes a long way in ensuring that no member of the Armed Forces community falls through the gaps again.
