Steyning Farmers Market 🌻

Don’t miss the Steyning Farmers Market, held in the High Street Car Park (opposite the clock tower) from 09:00 to 13:00 on the first Saturday of every month.

This award-winning market is packed with high-quality local produce — from 🥦 fresh vegetables, 🍎 seasonal fruit, 🥩 locally reared meat, 🥚 free-range eggs, 🍞 artisan bread and cakes, 🧃 fresh fruit juices, and 🧀 dairy delights, to so much more!

The Steyning Farmers Market proudly won BEST Farmers Market in the Sussex Food & Drink Awards 2015 — a real celebration of our fantastic local producers and community spirit.

🎨 Spotlight on... Steyning Arts 🎨

Steyning Arts was established in May 2011 and brings together over sixty local artists and craftspeople, both professionals and talented amateurs. Our aim is to:

• Showcase local artists across a broad range of artistic disciplines including painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, crafts and photography.
• Make our art accessible to the wider public, providing them with a chance to appreciate and buy work that is unique, locally created, and eminently collectable.
• Inspire budding artists to develop their talents.
• Build a community of artists and supporters that nurtures the creation and appreciation of art.

🍂🎃 Have you caught our October issue yet? 🍁✨

This month we feature local artist Melissa Birch, whose lino prints bring bold design and creativity to our cover. You’ll also find the story of how the Steyning Community Orchard began, showing what can be achieved with a few determined people and a good idea.

There’s plenty happening in our community this month. The Steyning Drama Company has a comedy double bill coming up, the Farmers Market continues to showcase the best of local produce, and our diary pages are full of concerts, talks, walks, and family events.

On the environmental side, we look at the return of the Red Kite, the work of Steyning for Trees to support birdlife this winter, and how the Weald to Waves project is connecting local efforts into a wider network for wildlife. Our gardening feature highlights jobs for October and the striking Caryopteris ‘Dark Knight’, a plant that brings colour late into the season.

Book reviews this month cover everything from spooky reads for children to history and thrillers for adults – perfect for the darker evenings. As always, a big thank you to our contributors, advertisers, and readers for your support. I hope you enjoy this issue and find plenty to get involved with in Steyning, Bramber, and Upper Beeding.

Discover who did what, where and with whom! Steyning's attractive timber-framed buildings and flint cottages hide many secrets from the past – come and uncover some of them… if you dare. 😲

We will be exploring the streets and twittens of Steyning with many scandalous stories, all researched through local documentary sources.

🐾 Dogs on leads welcome.
No need to book – just turn up in good time for a prompt 10 a.m. start.
💷 Fee payable on the day: £5 (cash only please).
