There is so much that we can learn from our past in Scotland, but sometimes it’s good to ask some questions that make you challenge what you’ve always thought about our history. “Scotland’s Final Frontier”, Dr Murray Cook’s latest title, marks the influence that the River Forth had on the area, not just locally but as a frontier that shaped the entirety of Scotland’s history. The River tells its story and yields its secrets through Murray’s archaeological excavation of the area, uncovering tales of the people who were involved in protecting it, had fought over it, and tried to claim it, to demarcate their idea of empire. Extremis Publishing is proud to support Maggie's Forth Valley! We recently donated a hamper of books to Maggie's in Larbert as part of their fundraising efforts, and we couldn't be prouder to support the incredible work they do.

Maggie's Centres offer free practical, emotional, and social support to anyone affected by cancer: patients, families, and friends alike. Every centre provides a warm, welcoming space (often right next to NHS hospitals) where people can drop in for a cup of tea, some expert advice, or simply a listening ear. At a time when a cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming and isolating, Maggie's helps people feel less alone and more in control.

Books have always been about connection, comfort, and escape, so it felt only right to lend our support in this small way. We'd encourage everyone to consider donating, volunteering, or simply reading about Maggie's Centre in Larbert to see the wonderful work they do.
