That's me wrapped up for 2022. I made some of my best sounding records this year and got to meet loads of new and amazing artists! The studio continued to grow despite it being a very difficult year financially and that is all thanks to you guys. My little family is also about to grow early next year and I can't wait!
Thank you to the bands who trusted me with their art. Thank you to the bands who chose me over bigger named producers. Thank you to all the people who travelled to Stoke-on-Trent to make their record instead of going to a big city. Thank you to the artists who hired me for my sound and trusted me to fulfil their vision. Thank you for keeping the lights on.
Last few dates available in March. Paternity leave in April. Back at it in May. See you next year.

LOWER LANE STUDIO TOUR 2022

All joking aside I am incredibly proud of where the studio is at right now and can't quite believe how far it has come in the last 8 years! When I got the keys in 2014 it was a derelict, empty shell with no electricity and no water! Fast forward to now and it is a fully equipped professional recording studio and a lovely place to work!

I couldn't have done it without the support of all the amazing bands and artists I have worked with over the years! No bank loans, no rich parents, no handouts, just hard work and dedication. Every single piece of equipment and every upgrade was paid for with your money. Thank you for your investment and thank you for believing in the studio. Lower Lane always was and always will be here for YOU and as long as you continue to support the studio I will continue to make it a better and better place to visit.

Introducing MakeDamnBloor - Kick and Snare TCI Pack inspired by the album Louder Now!

At the height of lockdown I decided to use my free time to recreate one of my favourite productions of all time! MakeDamnSure from the album Louder Now by Taking Back Sunday. The song was recorded and mixed by Eric Valentine and features one of the most unique and interesting drum sounds of the last 20 years. It is highly disputed but I personally LOVE it and had an amazing time recreating it! I actually think I got scarily close.

Kick drum is a 24x14 Sonor Phonic (used by Eric on Songs For The Deaf)

Snare drum is 14x5 Ludwig Acrolite

The samples are multi-velocity and have been processed with a combination of outboard and plugins to get you as close to the drum sound you hear on the record as possible. Each TCI comes with close, crush, overhead and room.

The studio is upside down again tonight because this week I am having air conditioning fitted in the control room, live room and editing room!!
I think this might be one of the biggest upgrades the studio has had in the last 8 years. No more blazing hot summers and no more freezing cold winters.
Thank you all for the continued support. Been working my arse off since 2014 to make Lower Lane the very best studio it can be and this year I feel like people will really start to notice the changes.

Still a few more mixing days for me until I can finish for Christmas but I just wanted to say thank you to every single person who supported the studio this year! I don't even have the words to express how grateful I am to still be here making records after the toughest couple of years. I thought I was done. You had other ideas.

Happy release day to my brothers in . We worked so hard on this record over the course of about 18 months and I'm incredibly proud of what we achieved. Every single person pushed themselves to the limit for this record learning new skills as musicians and becoming better writers in the process. Every single moment in every song was considered to make sure we delivered the very best album possible and I think we did that!
I just want to say a huge thanks to Black Coast for believing in me and letting me get so involved in their music. I hope this record takes you to new heights and gives you all the things you deserve.

How I spend my afternoons when I haven't got anything to mix. Go through the entire tuning range of the house kit recording samples at each stage and creating a database of go to notes and intervals between heads so I know exactly what works and doesn't work! Still learning new things and developing after 10 years of audio. Nerd.
