LISTEN: The world-famous National Gallery has launched an outdoor exhibition in Stoke-on-Trent City Centre.

Life-sized replicas of 15 famous masterpieces from the likes of Van Gogh and Monet have been installed in Bethesda Gardens, opposite the The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery.

A ceremony marking the 83rd anniversary of the Lidice atrocity took place in Stoke-on-Trent today.

173 men were killed on this day in 1942 and the Czech mining village was destroyed.

News of the event sparked an extraordinary wartime response in which North Staffordshire miners raised money to rebuild the village.

Flowers were laid this morning and prayers were said by a pear tree, next to the Victoria Hall, which has grown from a graft cutting taken from the pear tree in the centre of Lidice itself.
