Bad Seeds

Each word, each phrase, and sentence you sneer,
Plants a seed in the minds of kind souls we hold dear.
For you it’s just fun, your cruel little game,
But hearts have been broken, you should feel ashamed.

No regard for the consequence, you just need to score,
And despite all their bleeding, you’ll come back for more.
You’ll snipe and you’ll snark ‘til they’re down on their knees,
Not until they give up, and even then you’re not pleased.

For you’re dark and monstrous, with an insatiable thirst,
For hearts that will suffer from your poisonous outbursts.
Their tears and their torment are your bread and wine,
In your fu**ed up sacrament, your need to enshrine,

Yourself as a victim, the one who’s been slighted,
But karma’s a bitch, don’t think we’re shortsighted.
We see through your lies, and your fake Bonne âme,
It won’t last for long, soon enough we’ll all see,

How our friends will arise, shrugging off your invective,
Supported by love and the warmth they’ve collected,
Through sharing their heart and keeping it real,
They’ve nothing to prove and nothing to fear.

The war has begun, we’re already slaves
We’re told it’s efficient, and pennies are saved
We’re scanned and we’re logged, like food at a checkout
Trading our freedom with no chance to backout

From a system that was always designed to control
They’ll say it gives choice, but we pay the toll
To a digital monster who’s masters decide
Who can be free and who’s hands are tied

Our access to work, even health or a home
Weeding out those who don’t use a smartphone
We’re assured we’re protected, the system’s benign
But when “1” flips to zero you’re on the front line

At war with a system that stole your humanity
So don’t blindly enable this digital insanity
We’re humans transcending mere data and bytes
The writing’s on the wall, don’t give up your rights!

We demand that the UK Government immediately commits to not introducing a digital ID cards. There are reports that this is being looked at.

It is what it is

It is what it is, a common refrain,
A dismissal of sorts, disregarding the pain,
Of circumstance often created through choosing,
Not immutable, unavoidable, but rather through losing,
Our sense of what’s right, what’s just or what’s fair,
to take the big steps, to show that we care,
Because a lot of what is, should never have been,
We allowed it, we did this, we can wipe the slate clean.

A little poem entitled "What happened to the left?"

When the bombs fell silent,
And from the rubble, we arose alive,
When we looked out for our comrades,
It was the spirit of forty five.

Nye Bevan saw health a human right,
And we got the NHS,
A civil society’s duty of care,
To not abandon those with less.

And then the National Insurance act,
Designed to provide for those,
Who through no failure of their own,
Were unemployed or sick or old.

And then to build a nation fair,
And unshackle the working classes,
They created the education act,
Empowering the masses.

We finally saw that hanging folks,
Was no more than cold revenge,
Then let the likes of Pierpoint go,
His barbarity avenged.

The love that shall not speak its name,
In sixty seven was cleared,
Allowing love to choose its path,
Without arrest being feared.

And then the law showed womens bodies,
Were theirs and theirs alone,
That their right to choose was sacrosanct,
Their autonomy their own.

In sixty eight, our racial hate,
was taken down a tone,
A race relations act was made,
So all could find a home.

In seventy we levelled up,
Paid men and women equal,
But corporations found loopholes,
So then there came a sequel.

The s*x discrimination act,
Prevented greedy bosses,
From disadvantaging good women,
For babies, or monthly losses.

Health and safety, minimum wages,
human rights and more,
The freedom of information act,
We strove to settle the score.

And now what have they done to us,
The blessed PLP,
They’ve thrown out all their principles,
Betraying you and me.

They expanded private finance,
It’s tendrils spreading deep,
Into our public services,
It really makes me weep.

To think of all the good undone,
The pain they are bestowing,
We’re trying hard to swim upstream,
And the currents only growing.

The trade union movement was betrayed,
And welfare felt the squeeze,
They took away free higher ed,
Introducing tuition fees.

The banks were freed to run amok,
The city laughed and cheered,
Until it all came tumbling down,
And their tab, we were left to clear.

And then we went to war with Iraq,
Sexed-up documents they devised,
They threw poor Kelly under the bus,
To hide their treacherous lies.

And now they’ve got in power again,
They’re turning to the right,
To shout about the rubber boats,
Ignoring greater plights.

Like crumbling schools and hospitals,
And keeping old folks warm,
Or mental health or housing woes,
And fending off Reform!

Equivocating while Gaza burns,
And genocide unfolds,
Supported by your policies,
Your shamelessness grows old

But all you want to do these days,
Is gain the popular vote,
By drifting further to the right,
Like mercenary scrotes.

Your minister for housing showed,
A staggering false pretence,
By stiffing her own tenants,
And putting up the rent.

And the deputy PM it seems
Not immune from impropriety
Avoided paying the taxed she owed
So embarrassingly bourgeoisie

It’s now beyond a casual joke,
Your party stands in shame,
It’s hard to tell you from the right,
You’re all the f***ing same.

Nationalism is not patriotism - This is a growing cancer.

Flag Shaggers

I first saw it driving home from the shops,
The gammons had been out to play,
By painting up roundabouts and planting their flags,
And even zebra crossings got sprayed.

A bold cross of red on a field of white,
England’s flag, St George’s might,
Now a symbol of national pride usurped,
by the hate and division they poorly hide.

Behind closed doors, we know their tune,
That white is right and you cannot impugn, their stance,
because they’ll just play the victim,
Call you an insurgent, in need of convicting.

For standing your ground, and remaining inclusive,
Instead of flag sh****ng and wanting exclusive,
Rights in a country your ancestors invaded,
Their hypocrisy’s wild and their memory’s faded.

They’re brown shirted boot boys in football kit,
They’re so full of hate, and blame all their pain,
On those who outwit their ridiculous claims,
To flag s**g their way to power and fame.

So if it’s all the same, I won’t subscribe,
To Christo-fascist views and vile diatribe,
Your racism, s*xism, your bigot’s agenda ,
Even if by opposing you it makes me an offender.

England stands on its rich cultural heritage,
Not on your twisted restrictions on parentage,
So, read up your history and don’t be a jerk,
And accept that St George was in fact born a Turk.

Had a wonderful experience doing something I never thought I would! Performing some of my poems for the first time ever. Nerve-wracking at first but settled down soon enough, and all in aid of Black Country Women's Aid. Great people. Lovely vibe. New friends. Look forward to next time.

Thrilled for my creative friend Katie Victoria on local radio today. Great to see your work gaining interest!
