Censor Yourself Music

Censor Yourself Music The greatest meeting of minds since Nikola Tesla headbutted Marconi for stealing his design for the radio. Music promoters, Music lovers, Scene makers

CYM Presents (Censor Yourself Music) is a group of like minded individuals from Stratford Upon Avon and the Warwickshire and West Midlands area of the UK who are on a mission to provide the best, most eclectic mix of live music from all genres and walks of life to an eager, hungry and needy audience. Specialising in Rock, Alternative and Metal nights aimed at providing band, fan and venue alike an

evening of good times, fun and aural titillation the likes of which will never be forgotten. As well as Acoustic showcases for bands are near as Leamington and as far as Portland, Oregon to showcase their wares and songs to a baying and insatiable audience. CYM PRESENTS was the promoter in residence for rock and alternatives nights in Stratford Upon Avon’s premier venue Cox’s Yard between 2005 and 2012 – Putting on over 100 shows with acts such as GUNDOGS, GO PRIMITIVE, WHISPER IN THE RIOT, GEHTIKA, WHITE MEN CAN’T FUNK, KOSS, THE DEATH OF JOHNNY ALPHA, ALICES PEARL GARDEN, MAN HALF MACHINE and many, many more. They enjoyed residencies at the iconic Scruffy Murphy’s in Birmingham from June 2012 until June 2013. As well as at Leamington Spa's LAMP venue - where they worked closely with venue managers Pip and Florence Burley to put on gigs for every genre as eclectic as Operatic acts through to Acoustic headline acts, opening new doors and tangents into acoustic, unplugged and folk and singer/songwriter orientated evenings at No 1 Shakespeare Street In Stratford Upon Avon before hosting a 3 years promoter in residence at Stratford Upon Avons Picturehouse cinema with the astoundingly popular ACOUSTHEQUE evenings every Sunday where - in 2015 alone - they promoted over 65 gigs over 12 months, highlighting over 160 different acts from Leeds to Portugal, Melbourne, Australia to Henley Street in Stratford. Brainchild of Andi James Chamberlain (MySweetheartTheDrunk/The Death of Johnny Alpha/Eagles Born Vultures) and run in partnership with brothers-in-arms Jonn Hughes (Down In 1980/Deflection theory/DOJA), Jon Pitcher (Citadel/DOJA/Eagles Born Vultures) and Tom Woods (Start The Hourglass/DOJA/Moghul/Kroh) – CYM aim to deliver gigs that will showcase the bands talent in perfect environments, provide fans and music lovers with evenings designed to thrill, move and be remembered and create perfect symbiosis between band member and audience – helping to bolster the scene and the live music experience. In tandem with the live shows, CYM also create a monthly free to download podcast featuring the best in local, international, new and old bands, musicians and artists – named the CYM DOOMCAST, available for free via iTunes, previously releasing 16 episodes in its maiden year, it will soon move into its next phase with live recordings in front of an audience = it features chat, political discourse and not just a little bit of sweary, beery, foul mouthed banter – mixed in with monthly themes tying all the music together and creating an alternative to the spoonfed commercial radio from real fans of real music. CYM live and die by the creedo that music should be for everyone, and if we really should be censored, we should censor ourselves. See you down the front at an upcoming gig...

TO ALL WHO EXPRESSED INTEREST IN THE SOUNDCLASH BATTLE OF THE BANDS!

PLEASE NOTE!

(And Go Follow Soundclash for further updates!)

Hello All!

Due to some bands being unable to play the dates, and some unforeseen circumstances the SOUNDCLASH BOTB competition is being pushed back to early 2020 to allow more time to iron out some kinks in the format and also allow us to pursue some further acts to join the competition.

As is the way with these things - when fresh and new - certain obstacles rear their heads which could not, or where not anticipated.

By pushing the competition back to 2020 we are able to make sure the integrity of the events, the competition as a whole and also the experience we wish to offer all bands who play and audience members who attend is THE best it can possibly be.

We will keep all entry forms received so far on record, all bands who have made queries or already established entry will be contacted in due course once we have the next dates available.

We apologise for any inconvenience, but promise we are creating something that is sorely needed in this town of Stratford Upon Avon and will deliver the very best competition we are able with a very exciting and competitive prize package.

Should you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact us in DM and we will try and answer as best we can.

Thank you for your patience.
Speak to you all soon!

Andi & Doug

BANDS OF FACEBOOK!

After a lot of work on the background quietly lining up all our ducks it would appear we are on the verge of the mighty and long awaited return of SOUNDCLASH BATTLE OF THE BANDS!

Anyone who remembers the glory days of the Coxs Yard Wednesday evenings, watching some of the best acts and bands of the West Midlands facing off against each other - CYM and Doug Armstrong have been working hard to get it back up and running are ready to open the application process for our first lot of 18 bands for the 2019 competition!!

Over ten weeks we will have 18 bands of all genres and styles facing off to compete for a brilliant prize package from the wonderful Play House venue on Market Square Stratford.

Entry will require a £30 deposit to secure a spot (which will be returned when the competition starts) and applicants have to have at least 2 members living within 30 miles of Stratford upon Avon.

There is NO age limit - initially this was being looked at for under 30’s - but due to the feedback received this has been removed and all ages can play. The competition is initially open to AMPLIFIED full bands of at least three members or over (though we will consider White Stripe/Black Keys type duo acts that fit the requirements)

The first rounds will begin in September and go through to early December for the final, and two acts from three on each round go through to battle toward the final in November Semi final rounds.

If you are interested in playing please comment below with links to your band - like this page, and we will DM you with a request for further information and an official applicant form.

Get ready to rock as we bring back one of the best battle of the bands in the region and bring live bands back to SUA in a big, big way.

We really look forward to hearing from you all.
Thank you all!

Andi & Doug.

Dear Friends,
it is with a heavy heart we must face up to some pretty awful truths and realities and share with you some sad news.

CYM has been going now as indie promoters in one fashion or another for nearly 15 years. Initially started as a way and means of promoting the bands we played in, then gathering steam and working with some of the best musicians and acts up and down this country.

From there we started to make friends with acts and bands from Europe, America, and many other places besides - and always with the aim of promoting music and the community scene in the best, safest and most exciting ways possible.

We have worked with some truly exceptional people, sound-guys, fellow promoters, venue managers and booking agents - not to mention bar men and women, doormen, coat boys and girls and ticket collectors - always providing top quality events, in affordable and exciting ways.

We have loved every gig we have put on, and always strived to make it about one scene and one community = never about money, profit or advancing our own egos...

Sadly - the world has moved on in new and confusing ways, and the business of promoting a gig in a small town without a dedicated venue - without an in-built PA, without a big bank balance or backer to bankroll the events has proven to be harder and harder and, finally, CYM have had to face the fact of the matter face to face.

It is then - with a heavy heart - that I have to announce that the CYM Presents and CYM Rock & Metal showcase evenings will be cancelled for the foreseeable future.

The truth of the matter is this - £5 a head does not cover costs any more - Bands DESERVE to be paid their worth, and we cannot survive any longer expecting nor perpetuating the charity and favours we have long enjoyed.
We cannot keep up with the rising costs of security, room hire, travel costs, sound guy expenses and all other expenses - at the cost of expecting bands and soundguys and PA hires to play or contribute toward shows for scraps, and we cannot keep running shows on hope and faith alone.

If 30 people do not show up, we do not cover costs.
If 50 people do not show up, we cannot pay our bands.
If we have to keep asking for people to provide time and services for nothing more than thank you and a handshake, we are doing potentially more damage to the scene than good - and we cannot allow, nor do we want, to keep pushing the luck or status quo we have struggled to maintain.

The last two gigs we put on were hard in different ways due to stresses and demands placed on the whole team who help us run these nights... and sadly... after much reflection CYM have decided that we need to take a break, regroup and look at how we can do better and work toward improving the situation, rather than ignoring the problems we have faced.

This is not a GOODBYE, it's a "just give us a moment..." - Our weekly ACOUSTHEQUE sessions at the Stratford Picturehouse will be unaffected and will continue every week, and we will be putting on some one -offs and helping wherever are able and however we can when needed.
It has been an absolute privilege and a pure, unrelenting joy to work with so many amazing, exceptional people over the last 15 years - and i cannot begin to thank people enough.

I will soon be taking a break from Stratford and moving a little further afield, and hopefully with a bit of a rest and reflection, i can come back with CYM and once again put on the very best, very special rock showcases and metal nights again for you all... For now... We thank you, all, for your patronage, support and love over the 200+ gigs we have put on, and ask you please support local music and keep attending every show you can... It's becoming harder and harder to create good art, and these brilliant humans deserve every ounce and second of your time, support and love.
God knows without it, we would never have survived as long as we have.

Thank you unconditionally to my brothers in arms who have helped me make CYM what it was - Jonn Hughes, Jon Opie Pitcher, Thomas William, Ben Michael Holdstock, Alex Calvert-Caithness, Paul HugJunkie Waters, Mike Brownstone, Toby Ollis-Brownstone, Callum Wachowski, Ed White, Mike McGreal, Charlie Terryfold Stanley, James Minty Turvey, Max Messenger, Dennis Cook, Tom Hall, Gareth Chamberlain, Pip Ellis-Burley, Vikki Fox, Geoff J A Alun-Jones, Stephen Steinhaus, Dan Kiener and anyone else who ever worked a door, ripped a ticket, stood up for us and proudly shouted back at me when i screamed "IF WE MUST BE CENSORED... WE WILL CENSOR OURSELVES."

I love you and CYM Loves you,
Thank you for being brilliant and hopefully see you all soon.
