Man Cave Projects

Man Cave Projects Motorcycle restoration projects I'm working on in my garage at home. I used to work in the classic car restoration industry as a painter.

I no longer work in the trade so this is just my hobby in my spare time building up my collection.

Something a bit different:
The 1983 Honda Motocompo!
Just wrapped up a light refresh on this absolute gem of JDM history—the Honda Motocompo!
Originally released in Japan in 1983 (produced from 1981–1983), this quirky 49cc 2-stroke "trunk bike" was ahead of its time. Honda actually designed it specifically to fold down into a compact box and fit perfectly right in the boot of the Honda City hatchback.
Talk about the ultimate 80s commuter combo! 🚘+🛵
After a little TLC, fresh cleanup, and tune-up, this little red suitcase-on-wheels is looking sharp and ready to roll.

New Tool Day! 🛠️

The second set of the Snap-on Nano 14.4V tools arrived on the van today! I loved the first set so much I just had to grab this set—mainly for the right-angle 1/4" drive driver.
The specs on this thing are perfect for motorcycle work:
Motor tightens up to 5 Nm - Clutch in the head sets to 10 Nm.
It's an absolute game-changer for tight spaces and working on bikes with bolts up to 13mm.
While it doesn't match the raw torque of my Milwaukee 3/8" drive ratchets, for small, hard-to-reach areas, these Nano power tools are unbeatable.

Who else is running the Snap-on Nanos?

It’s always tough saying goodbye to a build...

Took the No.2 NSR250 out for one last shakedown ride after replacing the water pump seals. Pleased to report she runs like a dream and every last detail is sorted.

Come Friday, she’s off to her new owner. You put so much time and soul into these machines that they truly feel like family by the end.

Hope the new owner loves riding her as much as I loved building her!

Very special day for Man Cave Projects! 🏍️💨
We had Jim Moore from MCN, test rider Jimmy Doherty, and James a professional photographer drop by to feature the NSRs for an upcoming article in MCN.

To top it off, we took one of the NSRs out on a road test head-to-head against a brand-new Kawasaki ZX-4RR!
30-year-old two-stroke smoke vs. modern four-stroke tech... which one would you be jumping on?

Can’t wait to see the final feature and professional photos. Keep your eyes peeled for the article in MCN soon! 👀

NSR250 Water Pump Seals Replacement.

Right after the last shakedown ride, NSR250 No.2 developed a small water leak from the weep hole—classic sign of failing water pump seals.
I got straight to work,
drained the oil and coolant.
Pulled the clutch and outer casing.
Replaced the mechanical seals & fresh gaskets all around.
Everything is Buttoned back up! Hopefully, that’s the last little job out of the way. 🤞

Proper shakedown ride out to The Piston Club on the No.1 NSR250! 🏍️💨
She runs absolutely amazing and handles incredibly well. Zero issues or teething problems to report.
Still can't quite get used to that rattly dry clutch, though...

The second NSR250 had a small oil leak hiding behind the clutch.
Huge shoutout to the big man Wikon Somboon for sending over a new OEM seal all the way from Thailand! Not only did he source the part, but he also provided some top tips on making a custom plastic guide to slide it into place perfectly.

The best part, I figured out that a standard coffee mug is the absolute perfect diameter to help drive the seal home!
Sometimes the best workshop tools are sitting right next to your toolbox 😆

Paintwork restoration on a classic 1980 Kawasaki KH250 B5 tank.
The owner, unfortunately, had some items fall on the bike in his garage. While it was only a light dent, a classic bike like this had to be put right.

Check out the videos and photos to see the repair, fitting of the decals, and painting process.
