We should all be genuinely concerned about this π We need a multifaceted approach to get our younger generations to into these trades.
1... It needs to start at home with parents encouraging our children to do more constructive activities with their hands π οΈ I was just as guilty when my children were young because phones, tablets, PlayStation, and DVD players are so easy to keep them entertained.
2... Schools need to do more "hands-on" constructive activities as part of the national curriculum, what happened to the (pre-options) woodwork and metalwork lessons I did at school for example πͺ According to the research in this article, only 13 per cent of young people surveyed said they were encouraged at school to consider a career as a tradesperson!
3... The government need to do more to encourage young people into Apprenticeships, incentivise it if necessary! It makes economic sense because again, according to this research Itβs estimated the skills shortage will mean the UK misses Β£12 billion a year in GDP opportunities π·
Come on, think about it please π
Next thing you know there will be rioting over Immigration, because we must import all these skills...
New data from Simply Business reveals what the trades skills shortage will look like in 2030.
