A message from SDC Chair, Councillor Kate Kay, following the incident at the synagogue in Manchester.

“I wish to offer my thoughts and condolences to the victims and families of the terrible attack yesterday on the synagogue in Manchester.

I understand that this will have been a shock across the Stroud district, and particularly for Jewish members of our communities. On behalf of the Council we offer our full support and love.

We will be working with our partners and all of the wider community of Gloucestershire in the days and weeks ahead to provide reassurance, standing together against hate and discrimination in any form."

The The Cotswold Book Room in Wotton-under-Edge is celebrating its 75th birthday on Saturday 1 November this year.

To celebrate, we are planning a number of activities that people can get involved with. If you would like to help us get the word out to the people of Gloucestershire, please let us know.

In the weeks running up to 1 November, 75 book tokens of varying amounts, ranging from £2 to £75, will be distributed among the local Wotton businesses. These businesses will be able to choose how a customer can win a book token, and neither the business nor the winner will know how much the token is worth until they bring it to the bookshop.

On the day, anyone coming into the bookshop can expect (free of charge):

Birthday cake.
Late opening, with bubbly, from 5 until 7.
Bookmarks, badges and book merch.
A chance to share what the bookshop means to them, past and present, in a special book.
A party atmosphere!

Just to inform all our valued supporters and donors that we are unfortunately still unable to accept donations at our charity furniture shop and donations hub in Thrupp, as we are still working on essential improvement works.

These upgrades are part of a broader initiative to enhance the hospice's donation management, ensuring a more efficient and sustainable process moving forward.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen delays, the works are taking longer than anticipated.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your continued patience and understanding. The shop and hub will reopen on Monday 13th October, and we look forward to welcoming you back with renewed energy and improved facilities.
