So true. a sentiment echoed in Easy Healthy eating Hacks by Rachel Henderson

So many people fail to make lasting change to their diet and lifestyle because they try and do it all at once. People often dive in with the ‘complete overhaul’ mentality. If you are going from eating Maccy D’s every day to living on kale, salmon, and water overnight.....what are the chances you are going to stick to it? Slim!! Very few of us can make such aggressive and dramatic shifts in one go.
The method I use with anyone I work with is the ‘change one thing’ rule. Choose one simple goal. This could be as simple as making sure you have a dense side salad with each meal, snacking on fresh fruit between meals, drinking x amount of water. Whatever. Just choose one thing that you can realistically change then make that change. Repeat it every day until it becomes habit. Then, set another goal and repeat. Do this over and over and what seems at the time as baby steps, will after 6-12 months equate to a massive lifestyle overhaul. Consistent commitment to small habit changes that wont cause inner civil war will take you where you want to be, will be achievable, manageable, actionable and lead to lasting significant change!! .

So true - none of us are perfect - we all need guidance at times or to just be more relaxed in our approach. health is important but if we are stressing ourselves to get healthy then we could be doing more harm than good. Being healthy can be enjoyable we just have to find ways to make it so.

I know I keep saying it, but if you have decided to live a healthier life, remember why you did it in the first place. I suspect it was to feel better, live better, or live longer. For so many this new commitment becomes a source of stress. We punish ourselves mentally if we dont live up to our own ideals, we bemoan the process of preparing better food. We compare our journeys with that of another. This is madness and yet I see it so often and many people I work with, guiding them through this is a big part of the work we do together. All of this just takes you away from the reason you started this in the first place. Just look at the changes that you can make easily to begin with. Make these changes without crazy pressure on yourself. Change one or two small things then change another. Enjoy learning about new foods, new processes, new alternatives. Enjoy learning about yourself. Take it slow. Take it sensible. Get guidance. Enjoy the process and watch how things improve.

I love a stir fry it is a great way to get loads of different coloured veg into a meal and so quick! This one had shallot, mushroom, courgette, carrot, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, peas, sweetcorn, brocolli, red pepper, yellow pepper and Pak choi! Delicious with some soy sauce.
