⚠️ THIS ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH.

A car transporter unloading on the A28 this morning had its ramps left completely across the pavement and there was actually someone with a pram trying to get through.
They couldn’t.

Deliveries obviously need to happen, but completely blocking the pedestrian route like this isn’t acceptable. Anyone with a pram, wheelchair or mobility scooter needs to be able to get through safely without being forced towards the live carriageway.

It only takes a bit of thought and consideration to keep a safe pedestrian route open.

Not good enough. 👎

👀 TWO DIGGERS, TWO COFFERDAMS, ONE VERY BUSY PLATFORM D!

A cracking overhead view of Platform D this morning, with both Pier 3 and Pier 4 cofferdams now being excavated at the same time.

Two excavators are down inside the cofferdams, carefully working around the CFA pile heads as the next stage of the viaduct foundations starts to take shape.

And right between the two sits the 42m Bauer BG45, still laid down following completion of the 24 CFA piles across Piers 3 and 4.

From up here you really get a sense of just how much is being squeezed into this area between the railway and River Stour.

FROM PIER 4 TO PIER 3 👀 THE DIG MOVES ON

Excavation of the Pier 3 cofferdam is underway this morning on Platform D, following the start of excavation at Pier 4 yesterday.

It looks as though yesterday’s heavy rain may have changed the working plan slightly, with attention now moving across to Pier 3 while work continues to progress around both cofferdams.

Certainly a much better morning for it today! ☀️🚧

👀 THIRD AND FINAL APPEARANCE…

Volker Ground Engineering are back on the Sturry Link Road project for their third and final visit, this time for the sixth and final cofferdam on the scheme.

They’ve arrived up at the North Abutment, although piling hasn’t started just yet. After yesterday’s weather, things look to have slowed slightly and the working platform still appears to need a little more preparation before they can get underway.

Judging by the kit now on site though, it shouldn’t be too long before the sheets start going in and the North Abutment really starts taking shape. 👀

😂 JUST IMAGINE IF WE ALREADY HAD A NORTHERN ROUNDABOUT…

After dropping off the VolkerGround sheet piling rig down Haul Road C, this low loader had nowhere up there to turn around.

The solution? Reverse all the way back out of Haul Road C, back onto the main road, then head next door into Valencia’s yard just to turn around. 😅

Looking at it from above, you can’t help but think how much easier that manoeuvre would have been if the northern roundabout was already sitting there! 👀

🔨 THE BOX IS CLOSING IN AROUND PIER 2! 👀

A look down into the Pier 2 cofferdam yesterday, where the next stage of the pile cap construction was getting underway.
With the reinforcement steel well advanced, formwork has now started going in around the outside of the steel, beginning to give us a much clearer outline of the eventual pile cap.

Plenty still to do before it's ready for concrete, but it's another good bit of visible progress on Platform B. 👀

🌧️ RAIN OR SHINE, THE NORTH ABUTMENT MOVES ON!

Despite the pouring rain, work is continuing at the North Abutment, with more material being placed, spread and compacted as this area continues to take shape.

And this is definitely an area to keep an eye on, Volker Ground Engineering are due in this week to start forming the North Abutment cofferdam, so we should soon see another major stage of the structures work getting underway. 👀

Stay tuned on this one, I’ll be keeping a close eye on the progress! 📸

🌧️ GOOD MORNING… apparently. 😂

I can already tell this is going to be one of those days…

First job: get the kids to school.
Weather: absolutely chucking it down. 🌧️
Waterproof coat: nice and dry…

IN MY LOCKER ON SITE. 🤦‍♂️😂

It’s been sat in there untouched for months alongside my boots, ready for when the project team get time to take me out on site. And naturally, the ONE morning I could really do with it, I’ve got a school run to survive before I can even get to it. 😂

Then there’s the slightly bigger problem…

The drone isn’t waterproof. 🚁🌧️

So today’s aerial coverage might consist mainly of me staring angrily at the sky, refreshing the forecast and waiting for a ten minute gap. 😂

Although I reckon the tractor and bowser will still be earning its keep…

Dust suppression might be temporarily replaced by cofferdam emptying duties today. 😂💦

Joking aside, days like this are when I really appreciate VolkerFitzpatrick allowing me to use the welfare facilities. Being able to duck into a dry canteen, warm up and occasionally get a hot coffee makes a massive difference when I’m spending hours following the project in weather like this. ☕❤️

I haven’t needed that luxury much through the summer…

Something tells me that’s about to change. 😂🌧️

Right, school run, coat rescue mission, then let’s see what sort of update the British weather actually allows today! 👀🚁
