Ben took the steep steps to descend to Marsden Grotto this morning but was it really worth it?

The North East is filled with amazing TV and film industry professionals and creative talent but until a few years ago it was often overlooked in the industry conversation. Thankfully, with more attention on productions happening in the regions and nations in recent years, we’re seeing a much needed change 😎🎥

That change can only happen though when incredible talent is backed by strong advocates such as North East Screen who’ve been championing our workforce, locations and beautiful region for years 🎬

This morning our director Ben had the fantastic opportunity to attend a North East Screen Coffee Morning at Marsden Grotto in South Shields - a fab chance to connect, share ideas, catch up on industry developments and strengthen our network within the north east TV & film community over a good cuppa coffee by the sea ☕🌊

We appreciate opportunities like this as they allow us to build strong relationships within the screen sector in the North East. So was it worth it getting up and heading to South Shields early this morning? Absolutely!

All aboard, all aboard! Take your seats because 'Our Lives - The World's Oldest Railway' is about to roll onto your screens 🚂✨

As a service provider, most days we’re supplying kit and crew all over Europe but every so often a gem pulls into our own North East station. A few months ago, we had such a wonderful opportunity arrive, when Ben jumped on board with the brilliant team at Chalk Productions to help film empowering actuality for a superb documentary that celebrates the North East’s vibrant steam train community Tanfield Railway 🚂

From heart-warming stories shared by dedicated volunteers to a super creative leadership team to a crew that made every shot a pleasure - this project was pure loco magic! Ben joined in to do camera and with our recently renewed UAV insurance, a spotless risk assessment & operator ID in place, he even got to capture magnificent trackside views from above 🎥 🛤️

Huge thanks to Jonny Smith for the recommendation and to Victoria Holden for trusting me to join the ride, to Graham Smith for making sure I was always in sync and to Paul Stephenson for making me look decent in the crew photo 😎

The production is nearing it's final stop now and we can’t wait for you to see it on BBC later this month!

Wednesday's CPD event, hosted by our strategic partner the University of Sunderland Centre for Graduate Prospects team, reminded us why continuous learning is non-negotiable for businesses that sit at the crossroads of creativity and technology.

Apart from brilliant networking opportunities, the event offered thought-provoking workshops and here are my top takeaways:

Human-first approach to AI 🎯
We explored ways to integrate AI into everyday workflows - enhancing opportunities and speed - while safeguarding employee wellbeing and leaving room for every employee to learn and grow. The emphasis on governance and psychological safety felt especially relevant as we discussed lived experiences with other business leaders and shared how, at Schwartz Patrick Media, we expand our own AI knowledge and experiment with new ways of utilising it effectively while remaining true to our core of putting people first.

Bridging the talent gap 📚
Business leaders and UoS experts presented interesting case studies which highlighted why bridging the talent gap and bringing businesses on board to create early career opportunities as well as knowledge transfer are crucial for such a symbiotic relationship that benefits an entire region. It underlined how industry placements and internships but also research driven interventions remain the most reliable bridge between academic theory and business reality. With our firm belief that giving back involves parting knowledge and creating opportunities in real life business environments, this was music to our ears!

Re-framing leadership 📈
A bitesized workshop challenged the idea that “effective leadership” is static. In markets that fluctuate and industries that grapple the rapid changes AI triggers, adaptability, authenticity and a learning-led culture are powerful tools. It was refreshing to engage in meaningful conversation with Dr. Ian Carr and we're quite keen to get onto one of UoS's more comprehensive leadership workshops soon. Because when you stop learning and striving to improve, you might as well stop running a business!

Plenty to digest and several follow-up conversations already in the diary. We're grateful to the amazing team at the University of Sunderland for curating a CPD session that equips both students and employers for the pace of change ahead. We're much looking forward to translating Wednesday’s insights into tangible processes for our team and the clients who entrust us to tell their stories authentically on screen.

Strategy, shoots and strong foundations - April was all about building momentum.

Earlier this year, we kicked things off in style with a brand-new client, developing a tailored social media content strategy that involved taking a deep-dive into audience research, competitor analysis and recent algorithm changes. After weeks of planning, we wrapped our first shoot day in April and delivered over 60 content pieces, optimised for each social platform they went on 🎯

We also welcomed to our team, a super talented film student from who spent some time with us on placement. Jake has a huge love for everything documentary, so he was naturally a great fit for us. He supported our team across development / production and helped dig deep into research for a new feature doc concept 🎥

Out in Wolverhampton, Ben delivered a DaVinci Resolve editing workshop for one of our regular clients and, while doing so, even had the chance to learn a bit about the history of the .museum ⚽ Great energy and brilliant contributors - what more could you ask for?

Last but not least, we renewed our drone operator ID and insurance to keep everything safe and flight-ready ✈️ And what better way to celebrate than taking our DJI on a little flight for an upcoming BBC documentary?

🎬 Here’s a secret we’ve been keeping…

Let’s just say… March has been story-driven, content-packed and full of fresh collaborations 👏

💃 We began principal photography on a powerful new documentary following an inspirational dancer who overcame a life-threatening health issue to take on the big stage and make her mark in a fierce industry.

🎥 Our full Sony FX6 shooting kit went out on a series of cultural mini-docs, supporting other brilliant creatives in action. And we also licensed some of our regionally shot stock footage to said production! If you’re in need of North East visuals - let’s have a chat!

📲 We also kicked off an exciting new project with a brand new client to get their social media game up to speed! From developing their social strategy, generating fresh ideas and creating content to bring their message to life - we’ve had an incredible time working on this project.

You won’t believe what happened at Schwartz Patrick Media this month! 🎬✨

January has been a month full of creativity, growth, and meaningful connections. From productive meetings and catch-ups with commissioners, freelancers, and new clients to networking events, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed expanding our professional network. We also had the pleasure of joining an inspiring focus group led by Natasha McDonough from MMC Research, which presented a great opportunity to meet other business owners who've set up their base at the amazing North East BIC 💡

While January is typically a quieter time in the industry, we still had the chance to get our cameras rolling. This month, we worked on creating stunning publicity stills, filming branded content, and supplying equipment to one of our regular hire clients. It’s been a great mix of work that kept us busy and excited about what’s to come 🎥

As Schwartz Patrick Media continues to grow, so does our slate of projects. We’re excited to share that we’ve officially kicked off development for a documentary about dance, featuring a practitioner who’s seen the evolution of her field in real-time (more on that soon!) 💃🏽✨

And the cherry on top for January? Post-production for Hidden Gems of the North East has officially begun, and we’re thrilled with how it’s progressing. We can’t wait to share it with you all! 🌟

November been another busy and exciting month for us at Schwartz Patrick Media 🎬✨.

We had the pleasure of catching up with Adam Gilson, an incredible OB technician and a long-time friend we’ve worked with on projects since 2016. It’s been amazing to see where his career has taken him over the years—always great to reconnect with such talented people!

We also met up with the wonderful team at the University of Sunderland to discuss how we can continue creating valuable industry experience opportunities for students and graduates. Supporting the next generation of media professionals is something we’re truly passionate about 🎓🎥.

In development news, we’re making great progress on our new and exciting kids’ TV format designed for neurodiverse children, their families, and friends. Another productive meeting with a leading industry expert has helped us shape this vision, and we’ve started putting feelers out for crew—watch this space!

As our team grows, so do our needs. We’ve started exploring opportunities to upgrade our office space and saw some fantastic options at the NE BIC that gave us a real sense of what’s possible for 2025 🏢✨.

Meanwhile, our co-founder Rebecca took a trip to Spain to immerse herself in the local art community and scout potential locations for an exciting new project she’s developing 🎨🌍.

And to top it off, the NE BIC published an article about our Hidden Gems documentary—always a joy to see how the North East business community has championed this project from the beginning!
