National Mackem Day is celebrated on August 12th. It's a day for people from or associated with Sunderland, often referred to as "Mackems," to celebrate their heritage and Wearside pride. The term "Mackem" is a nickname for residents of Sunderland and the surrounding area, and it's also associated with the local dialect and the city's football club.

Car parking charges to be introduced at The Stadium of Light 🏟️🚙

Residents and commuters are advised that car parking charges will be introduced at the Stadium of Light from Tuesday 26 August.

All stadium car parks will remain free of charge for visitors spending less than two hours on site, ensuring Sunderland AFC supporters to visit the stadium store and ticket office, and other businesses located on the stadium site, at no additional cost.

In addition to supporting the management of parking throughout the City of Sunderland, this will also contribute to the region’s 2030 carbon reduction targets by encouraging more people to consider using sustainable methods of travel.

Car park users will enjoy tariffs that are considerably lower than other city centre options, with prices as follows:

0-2 hours: Free
2-4 hours: £4
4-8 hours: £8
24 hours: £10

Priced at £30, monthly passes are also available to purchase for frequent users, who will pay less than £1 per day annually.
