How do you find your perfect fit customers?

This was the topic of conversation in this months A Funny Thing Called Business episode , and et moi () with over 50 (!) years collective experience shared some of the best (and the worst) ways to attract your best (and not so good) fit customers.

Between us we've worked with some lovely people, but like us, I bet you all remember only too vividly the customers who it didn't quite work out with.

Don't worry we're not going to be asking you to share your client nightmares out here in the open...but if you do need to get something off your chest...that's what DM's are for! 😉

We talked about turning points in our business.

Networking came up several times. Finding a group where there are people you would go to the pub with...that's my litmus test for a great networking meeting anyway ;)

What's yours?

Turning points in your business that have led to growth...

Surely, if you've been in business for a significant amount of there have been many.

On A Funny thing Called Business podcast we shared networking as having a huge impact, not only on the growth of the business, but also in terms of personal development.

My 1st memory of networking was not long been out of corporate and turning up to a BNI meeting, full of grey suits at 7 in the morning and having to stand up and share my 60 seconds.

Absolutely horrifying at the time, but wow, did it make me STEP UP my game and get good at it!

What's been your biggest turning point in business?

Confession time for me and my fellow podcasters Pete Morgan, , … when I asked Are you over delivering to your clients?

There’s a time and a place right? We want to give the best service to our clients. But not to the detriment to our mental or physical health and our business must be profitable.

How do you create boundaries with client delivery?

'If you want to over deliver, make sure its on your terms'

Kate Curry is way more sage that she gives herself credit for.

She always manages to close off our podcast episodes with an absolute gem of advice (Think Jerry Springer ).

Our latest episode 'Over promising and over delivering - The curse of the business owner' is out now! Listen here - https://traffic.libsyn.com/afunnythingcalledbusiness/OverPromiseDeliver.mp3

Do you fall foul to either of these, and if not how you achieve balance?

In this month's 'Funny Thing About Business' podcast, we talked about differentiating yourself from your competitors.

In the U.S they call in nich-ing, we call it niching 🙂The former makes Kate Curry itchy!

Differentiating yourself is not always about working with a certain industry. It can be about focusing in on your values (as the business owner) and leading with these as your differentiation.

Or it could be honing in on your clients' values. Maybe they are heart-centered, community focused and giving. This can be your niche...

What's your niche and why?

If you host a podcast with others you'll know how the conversation can go off on a tangent, sometimes a very strange one. One minute you're talking about productivity in business, the next you're reminiscing about 1980's tech jargon!
