Swindon can now get some of the fastest broadband speeds in the Country as Openreach has begun switching on the pilot areas for it’s new ultrafast broadband network. The new ultrafast service provides download speeds of up to 330mbps – more than 10 times the national average. These faster speeds mean a two hour HD film can be downloaded in just 90 seconds, a 45 minute HD TV show in just 16 seconds and 9 hour audio book in just three seconds.

Traveling at the speed of light.

Copper wires are being upgraded to Fibre optic cables across much of the country. Swindon is one of the lucky areas where we are now able to take full advantage of this.

Being the fastest internet access technology to reach the UK, Fibre broadband uses fibre optic cables to transmit data.

Previous copper wires use electrons to transfer data whilst fibre optic cables transfer data using light. The speed of light is greater than the speed of electrons with fibre optic cables also having a much larger bandwidth (over 60 Tbps) compared to copper wires (10 Gbps).

Fiber optic cables are also unaffected by electromagnetic interferences and power fluctuations ensuring minimal interferences when power failures occur.
