For those interested in women's studies I'm giving a paper on "Women at philosophical lectures in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries" at Nottingham Trent University, next Saturday for the Midland History Postgraduate Conference 2011. The author of Agatha was a regular attender at these lectures.

I've contacted Facebook about a week ago to see why I cannot Add this to my favourites. Is anybody receiving these postings? How would you know?

Some authority has prevented me from adding this product to my page's favourites. My brother tried it too and he couldn't add it.

I sent copies of Agatha to all the major newspapers. Not one of them has had the common decency to acknowledge receipt, let alone review it. This is either an indictment on the press or an indictment on the Royal Mail.

Call me a cynic, but Gale have brought out a facsimile copy of "Agatha – or a narrative of recent events" and claim it to have been published one month before my second edition was freely available. However there have been no website links until this month, long after mine. So I don't believe it. There is a place for facsimile editions, but this strikes me as a sinister attempt at upstaging.

Can all those who have not yet done so please send the details they want to appear in the subscribers list, for example, John Goss, University of Birmingham or John Goss, Birmingham to email: [email protected]

The good news is that as well as friends and academics a top poet and art critic, and a US/New Zealand film producer have pledged to subscribe.

Up to now subscribers from overseas universities outnumber those from UK universities for this English novel. Surviving copies of the original 1796 edition also outnumber UK holdings, there being 2 in the UK and 11 abroad.

I discovered the author of Agatha while researching another English novelist, Robert Bage (1730-1801). Because of the scarcity of this novel I am publishing the 2nd edition and looking for subscribers, who for £20 get their names and home town (or university) on the subscribers' list. Interested parties can contact me via email: [email protected].
