Its been years maybe 10+, since I used HRD software for the radio, at the time it stood out, clean, simple, contained all you need in one package, I thought I would purchase it again.. Not a Fan, in fact I would go as far as... a waste of money ..Its now over complicated and to much in one package, also very difficult to navigate ..there are far superior single packages available for free .. for instance WSJTX and Gridtracker combined, provide a great software for data and log interaction for data modes, N1mm logger provides a great logger, for general use and contesting .. QRZ itself provides all I need log wise, and updates LOTW and Clublog for me and vice averse, SSTV is a great package for that mode, MMTY for all things RTTY .. Rig control wise Icom has its own very good Program... Disappointed very, just clad I had a 30% off code . PLEASE NOTE.. These are my personal views

Bit of a learning curb, not as simple as I thought, Took me 2 days on and off, with a few YouTube videos, to setup and configure RTTY, and also integrate it into my log book N1MM, but all working, and can decode it, on the other other radio .. Next some Live tests, aslo add in a few more macros, to make things simple, and hopefully some RTTY Contests, I need to do, towards getting my UK Contest Call.. Plenty of different parts to the radio hobby, still to learn, even after be… See more

CQ World wide 2024.. FINAL SCORES after log checking .. OWW YES ... HOWS THAT 👌👌💪20th in the UK ... 246th in Europe and 441st in the world.. Single operated low power category, that`s some dam Achievement, considering just over 10,000 took part 😀

Understanding dB in Ham Radio — Made Simple!

Ever wondered what all those “dB” numbers really mean when you’re tuning your rig or checking antenna performance?

Let’s break it down.
“dB” stands for decibel, and it’s not a fixed unit like volts or watts — it’s a ratio. We use it to compare two power levels, signal strengths, or gains. Why? Because signals in radio can vary a lot, and using dB makes it easier to handle huge differences without writing out tons of zeros!

Here’s the cool part:

A +3 dB increase means you’ve roughly doubled the power.
A -3 dB drop? You’ve lost half the power.
+10 dB? That’s 10 times more power.
-10 dB? You’re down to one-tenth!
In ham radio, we use dB to describe:

Antenna gain (how well your antenna focuses energy)
Filter attenuation (how well unwanted signals are reduced)
Signal reports and amplifier performance
So when someone says their antenna has 6 dB of gain, they’re saying it delivers 4 times more power in a given direction compared to a reference antenna. Pretty neat, right?

Remember: dB doesn’t tell you absolute power — it tells you how much more or less power you have compared to something else.

After remembering how to use the SSTV programme, and how to do templates.. I`m back on the SSTV (slow scan television ) Hype.. (a method of transmitting static images over radio waves) .. A quick exchange of signal reports with Antonia in Valera Fratta - ( Lodi ) Italy. on 20 meters (14MHz), he received me 444 and I sent 445 , bit rusty on sstv reports
