Maurice Project Update – Stripping Down Begins!

The next phase of the Maurice Project is underway, and we’ve taken the advice of those who’ve been here before: photograph everything, then photograph it again! Every step of the strip-down is being carefully recorded to make reassembly that much smoother.

A full racking and shelving system has been set up to store each part safely, catalogued with the help of a trusty Excel spreadsheet. Work began with the interior – no carpets, just plenty of soundproofing – but we were pleased to discover the floor pan in remarkably good condition, thanks to major bodywork carried out some years ago.

The boot area looks even better, still showing its original Opalescent Silver Blue paint. Removing the fuel tank proved quite a battle – and its design suggests it may not even be the original. Corrosion and a missing sender unit mean we’ll need to decide whether to recondition or replace. Interesting discoveries keep coming, including a later external fuel pump setup and some mysterious yellow tape hiding in the rear wheel arch!

Every part tells a story, and as Maurice is stripped back, we’re uncovering fascinating details about its past life, modifications, and the challenges ahead in restoring originality.

"Hilton & Moss were proud to be part of this year’s Silverstone Festival, one of the UK’s most celebrated historic motorsport events.

Taking to the track with their Pre ’63 Jaguar E-type and legendary Lister Knobbly, the team showed both pedigree and passion. The E-type battled hard to finish P8 overall and P3 in class, while the Knobbly also claimed a strong P5 overall and P3 in class.

"Le Mans Classic 2025 was a fantastic adventure for some of our members – and it was even better to see the next generation joining in. Max Cook travelled with his father Craig in their E-type Series 2 OTS, experiencing the thrill of the convoy, the atmosphere of the circuit, and the unforgettable parade laps.

We love seeing younger enthusiasts getting involved, whether it’s helping keep these classics on the road or sharing in the passion for the events. After all, the future of the club depends on passing this enthusiasm down the line. It was a shame it ended with their car coming home on the back of a truck!"
