Finishing off a great few days of fishing, Friday on the Severn, Saturday on the Wye, decided to spend a couple of hours before sunset on the Warwickshire Avon. Stick float and centre pin….loads of h**p and meat, brought me 4 chub before finishing with this beautiful barbel

The forecast looked less than ideal with the sun and high temperatures, but with the river falling over night and a nice bit of colour to it, we fancied our chances on the stick trotting through a lovely paced swim on the Severn at Bridgenorth. Feeding plenty of h**p and meat, 6 barbel and 2 chub made it a very enjoyable 4 hours before the sun become too much and the bites started to disappear, it was a sign to pack up and head home. A great morning, with the main man Robert Mitchell giving top class guidance of his stretch.

Having had a difficult start to the season on the barbel front, I opted to go back to some more basic tried and tested approaches on an old haunt on the Warwickshire Avon that has chucked me a few big fish in the past. Garlic cheese groundbait in the feeder, with a lump of meat on a hair. Second cast into the session and my rod ripped off! Putting up an almighty fight, I smiled as I enjoyed every lunge and surge in the current, running upstream, then down stream,fighting until the last moment, “get in” as I got the net under it on the second attempt. Finally after what felt like an eternity, my barbel account for this season is open. 11lb 8oz of perfection.

Anyone else planning their new season campaigns!? I am! Here’s a throw back to the opening of last season. Fishing a quiet spot on the Warwickshire Avon that I had baited for a few weeks prior.

Just over an hour into the new season and this great bar of gold woke me up just as I had fallen asleep😃 After all of the excitement and resting her up and releasing, I cast back in and got comfy in my bed chair once again…for the bite alarm to flat tone 🔊🔊🎼🎼, this time producing my biggest river carp to date after a hard fight, battling the carp through a reed bed. A common at 18.7lb , with a wound more than likely from the recent spawning spell. Was a great start to what became an even greater season!

So back to the drawing board for my next plan🤔 few
Spots in mind to start baiting in the next week or so….if you see me out and about chucking bait about….you haven’t seen me😂😂😅🎣
