What if behaviour isn’t just about the person, but the environment too?

In this insightful article, sensory engagement and inclusion specialist Dr Joanna Grace explores how environments impact autistic individuals and how changing the environment can change the resulting behaviour. Whilst sensory processing difficulties are a challenge for a wide range of neurodiverse people, not just those with Autism, it is most commonly associated with Autism and ADHD due to the increase of research and a shift to further understanding widely. With an insight to focus on Sensory Processing as a stand alone view, this allows us to consider how we can better understand and support small changes, with a big impact.

From sensory overload to the “cat in a swimming pool” test, Dr Grace challenges us to rethink traditional behaviour strategies and invites us to get curious, not controlling.

🔶 Learn how understanding neurodiversity starts with shifting perspective.
🔶 Discover practical ways to create truly inclusive environments.
🔶 Explore the powerful equation: Person x Environment = Behaviour

💬 A must-read for educators, parents, support professionals, and anyone passionate about inclusion!

Today marks the start of Dyslexia Awareness Week. 6th October - 12th October 2025 is Dyslexia Awareness Week, and the British Dyslexia Association are encouraging everyone to get involved with .

The aim of the week is to work to promote awareness, understanding, and achieve a dyslexia friendly society. With this years theme 'Raising The Volume' let's celebrate the work of many raising awareness and understanding.

Today the British Dyslexia Association launched a report report ‘Set up for somebody else’: Young people with dyslexia in the education system to shine a light on the experiences and challenges dyslexic children and young people in education face.

Organisations such as Made By Dyslexia, British Dyslexia Association, want to spotlight the multifaceted nature of Dyslexia, including drawing attention to the ever in-demand skill of Dyslexic Thinking.

In this issue of Connectiverse, we circle back to the conversations we had last year with Jamie Waller around the release of his book “The Dyslexic Edge” and the excellent work he, along with Kate Griggs and Sir Richard Branson have done and continue to do in bringing the recognition to the skill of Dyslexic Thinking to the forefront of discussions for organisations and businesses alike, not least by having Dyslexic Thinking now embedded as a skill within LinkedIn.

Stay tuned this week to dive deeper into Dyslexia Awareness Week with us and join in the discussion using

Today we are in attendance of 'Let's Talk About Suicide' confrernce by Solace Empowerment. As we bring you snapshot's from across the day we begin with a powerful morning.

The morning has been insightful and informative and was opened by CEO Mike Crowther.

His opening statement detailed the importance of Hope, Love and Kindness.

'We are joined by a room of the most wonderful people, a room filled with love, hope and kindness, together we embody hope.'

Closing the morning interval, Mike reminded the room;

'You are, we are, passionate individuals, and in summary and reiteration to Andy knox, it's individuals not taking no for an answer, and collaboration is the key to change and driving positive impact.'

As we move to the afternoon, we caught up with Solace Team Leader, Sam. She shared and echoed the importance of collaboration, but also the importance of the speakers today sharing their professional understandings, research and evidence. She will be sharing how this will play part in what is next. It's exciting for the local area, and we look forward to sharing more from this afternoon's session.

Thank you to Active Blackpool for inviting us to attend the Active Blackpool Community Awards on Friday 26th September.

It was a pleasure to see such a wide range and high caliber of individuals, organisations, groups and services recognised for all of their hard work, achievements and dedication in the face of their respective challenges and adversity, across all age groups.

In the current climate, it is easy to get bogged down in the negatives, with the focus regularly being pulled towards negative headline figures for Blackpool. However, the awards were truly a snapshot of some of the fantastic things that happen across Blackpool, across communities striving to improve their community. With world champions, multiple record breakers, outstanding contribution, community champions and dedicated young people, the heart of Blackpool truly shone through.

It was great to see all the support behind the event, and a particular congratulations is due to Jenny and April for organising and bringing together such an inspiring evening. The dedication and passion behind Active Blackpool from all involved was clear to see, It was infectious and inspiring, It was heart warming and it was a fabulous end to the week.
