PPWR, London Packaging Week, and all the latest industry news to keep you at the forefront of

The latest issue of Packaging Solutions is now available.
Along with new products and services, and the chance for the more than 200 exhibitors to highlight their work, the upcoming London Packaging Week looks to be an event filled to the brim with discussions about the challenges and opportunities within the packaging market. This issue therefore carries a number of interesting thoughts from industry leaders on where packaging is today and where it is going in the future.
The first implementations of the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) are already taking shape, and this will be a regulation that we all need to get to grips with.
This is just the start, as it is a farily substantial piece of legislation, and it will continue through further implementations up to 2040. We have some interesting thoughts on this within this issue too.
Happy reading!

Zero Waste Week: eddys challenges the hospitality industry togo beyond plastic free

Zero Waste Week (7 to 11 September) is an annual awareness campaign encouraging individuals, businesses and organisations to reduce landfill waste, conserve resources and protect the environment.

This year, the team behind eddys, the UK’s first deliciously sustainable spoon, is calling on the hospitality sector to consider its role in reducing disposable cutlery waste.

While research into disposable waste is difficult to quantify, previous investigations indicate just how quickly single use items can accumulate, particularly across foodservice and workplace environments. The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs estimated that England used 2.7 billion items of single use cutlery in 2023. Similarly, research conducted by Restaurant Associates (November 2021) highlighted that an individual attending the office three days per week consumes more than 144 pieces of single use cutlery over three months alone.

The solution eddys offers is simple: why waste the spoon at all? Made from five grains and seeds (amaranth, poppy seeds, quinoa, chia seeds and flax seeds), eddys is designed to be eaten during or after use meaning it leaves no trace, and no waste. Why chuck it, when you can eat it?

Dimense Surface brings leading international designers together for London Design Festival debut

London Design Festival 2026 marks the debut of Dimense Surface, a new premium interior wallcovering brand from Roland DG that combines striking visual design with tactile, dimensional surfaces. Launching with an exclusive collection developed alongside four international design studios, the brand aims to transform walls into immersive design experiences that engage both sight and touch.

Presented during London Design Festival and as part of Shoreditch Design Week, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the collection first hand through ‘A New Era for Texture Led Design’, a dedicated exhibition at the former SCP showroom in Shoreditch. Showcasing original works from collaborating studios in London, Tokyo and New York through immersive interior installations, the exhibition explores how texture, depth and dimension can shape atmosphere, enhance materiality and create richer sensory experiences. For architects, interior designers and design enthusiasts, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience some of the world’s leading creative voices exploring texture as a defining element of contemporary wallpapers.

London Packaging Week gives exclusive chance to go hands-on with groundbreaking self-cooling beverage Cool>Can

deltaH Innovations’ Cool>Can marks its debut at London Packaging Week. Inventor James Vyse will take the stage to offer insights into the one of a kind innovation.

Visitors to the two day exhibition at Excel London this September will be the first to experience a fully branded, commercialised, and shelf-ready Cool>Can. The result of two years of development, the can uses a push button activated chemical reaction to rapidly chill room temperature beverages, producing a temperature drop of around 10 to 15°C depending on the starting temperature. The reaction uses only water and a patented salt based coolant, without compromising recyclability.

Sandon Global strengthens global sales team as it enters new growth phase

British anilox manufacturer SANDON GLOBAL ENGRAVING TECHNOLOGY LIMITED has strengthened its UK and international sales team with the appointment of Stuart Williams as regional sales manager – UK and Ireland and the move of Paul Mitchell into a new strategic business development manager role focused on the Americas.

Stuart took up his position on 1 September 2026, while Paul assumed responsibility for developing and managing the company’s regional growth strategy.

The changes form part of the company’s strategy for the next stage of the business, with service at the forefront. Following the challenging period resulting from the fire at its Runcorn facility, it has strengthened its processes, reassessed its business continuity plans and is investing in its people and resources to support customers and future growth.

Xitron expands the K2 workflow family with new K2D-X for digital print production and K2 3.0

Xitron has announced the expansion of its K2 workflow family with the introduction of K2D-X, a workflow solution optimised for digital print production, alongside K2 3.0, the latest generation of its production workflow platform.

The announcement reflects Xitron's continued commitment to open, vendor independent workflow solutions that allow print providers to build production environments around the equipment that best suits their business rather than the limitations of a single manufacturer's ecosystem.

Today's print companies operate in a variety of production environments, each with its own workflow requirements. While many commercial printers require a unified workflow like K2 to support offset, digital, and hybrid production, others have invested heavily in multiple digital presses, each driven by its own digital front end (DFE). As those digital environments become more complex, maintaining a consistent prepress workflow becomes increasingly difficult. K2D-X was developed specifically to address that challenge.
