National Play Day

National Play Day is fast approaching!

📆 Mark your calendars! National Play Day is on Wednesday, 6th August, and Sandwell is joining the celebration with fantastic, free events for families across the borough this Summer.

From cooking workshops, taking part in Dhol drumming, arts and crafts, carnival games, or simply exploring, there will be something to spark every child's imagination and get them moving!

Behind These Numbers Are Real Stories.

Every statistic represents a child with dreams, fears, and a future that depends on the love and stability of a safe home. Right now, in England, 83,630 children are in care—more than ever before. Sadly, while the demand for foster parents has risen, the number of foster carers has dropped by 10% since 2021, leaving a shortfall of 6,500 foster homes.

Without enough foster carers, many children are left in less-than-ideal accommodations, such as children's homes, or endure multiple placement changes, uprooting them from their communities and disrupting their education and relationships.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. Foster parents provide more than just a roof over a child’s head—they offer love, guidance, and a chance for stability and growth.

Imagine being a child who’s already going through the trauma of being separated from their family—and then finding out that you’re being placed over 36 miles away from everything you know.

It might not sound far, but for a child, that distance can mean leaving behind friends, family, and routines that make life feel a little more stable. It can mean losing contact with siblings, switching schools, and starting over in an unfamiliar place at a time when they need comfort the most.

The reality is that children in foster care are often placed far from their homes due to lack of limited resources or suitable homes in their area.
This distance adds to their challenges, pulling them away from the people and connections that could help them through such a difficult time.
