If you have a game-changing idea, but have not managed to make it land with others, it's time to do some introspection. 

🌟 Before you can convince others, you need to have a solid foundation of self-confidence. Confidence from others will not be forthcoming if they cannot sense it within you.

🤔 Consider every angle of your vision in as much depth as possible, being critical will allow you to anticipate potential reservations in your audience.

âś… Perhaps the reason you have struggled to convince anyone is because you haven't conveyed a full picture. A precise and crystal clear vision eliminates the chance of misunderstandings - instead leaving your audience with an accurate and understood picture.

A better ability to understand others is always enhanced by a better ability to understand yourself.

It may be cliche but it starts from within.

If you want to change how people are responding to you, then look at how you are responding to others.

If you want to change the impact that you have on others. Then look at the impact that others are having on you. 

If you want to support others. Then you must be able to support yourself first.

There’s no way around, change of any kind always starts with you.

With all the technology in our lives today, we view so much unsolicited media.

While I do ask Alexa to tell me the news every now and again, most of the time I’m being served up information I didn’t ask for through advertisements online, influencers on social media, and Chinese whispers from friends, family and clients I meet each day. 

Reducing your exposure to information that you aren’t asking for will reduce your anxiety and keep your mind in check. 

Obviously I’m not suggesting that you lock yourself away and become a hermit, but switching off notifications on your phone and computer, not checking the news regularly, and being mindful of the topics that your in-person conversations are covering will all help to not sway or influence your thinking subconsciously.

It’s one thing to know the effect that you have on others but are you aware of the effect that others have on you?

Being aware of how your environment is impacting you is SUPER important. 

Your energy can easily be drained by certain people and places so make sure you are really tuning into how you are feeling throughout the day and making note of where you are and who you are with to identify the things that influence you positively and negatively.

Becoming more attuned to your surroundings allows you to place yourself better through daily life and take precautions where necessary in order to protect your energy and general wellbeing.

You can also take it a step further by identifying the people and places that leave you feeling the most influential, and maximising your time spent with them.

Often, how we see ourselves is very different to how others see us.

And assuming that others see us in a certain way leads us to some misleading ideas.

It can seem a little weird but I am always asking people how they see me so that I can keep my self-image aligned. I can easily create stories around how I am perceived by others and when I actually ask people, some of my stories are often untrue.

Asking for feedback from others is a really useful tool that allows you to tweak your actions and keep your self image aligned.

This is not about living through the eyes of others and changing who you are to suit other people, it’s merely soliciting feedback which you are free to take or leave and gaining knowledge as to how you are truly coming across so that you can make changes where necessary IF you want to.

When looking to earn the respect of others, especially when you are in a leadership position, it can be tempting to rely on some form of authority. Whether this is authority of position, or experience, or skills, it doesn't matter, it's still a major crutch.

When leaning on authority, you have an audience who is listening out of obligation, not necessarily engagement or investment.

Influence is more democratic, using it you can authentically resonate with those around you, as you more subtly weave empathy and energy into an idea which hits home.

Whether you are a team leader, thought leader, or just a manager of your own life, ensure your influence skills are up to scratch.

You can’t influence others positively if you are influencing yourself negatively. 

How often do you compliment yourself? 

How often do you smile at yourself in the mirror?

What conversations are going on inside of your head?

Our outer worlds reflect our inner worlds and if you are talking to yourself overwhelmingly critically, not treating yourself with kindness or not boosting yourself on a daily basis then you will find it difficult to positively influence others.

If you want to increase your positive influence on others then start practicing habits such as those above, which positively influence yourself.

Action will only occur when the desire for action is stronger than the desire for inaction.

Until you create a stronger desire to want to do something you will have a hard time getting it done,
but if you dig deeper in to find out exactly what is holding you back (fear, finances, energy levels - it
could be a number of things!) then you will be able to tackle that obstacle specifically and remove the resistance for yourself.

If this isn’t enough on it’s own then you will need to link a bigger payoff to getting the action done
than you already have in your mind.

So think of the bigger rewards, or the ways you can reward yourself after you’ve completed the
action.

Remove the resistance, up the reward!

We’re not always naturally motivated to do the things we need to do, but do them we must!

Often gaining some quick wins can energise you to tackle the bigger things.

Quick wins can be completing a few smaller and quicker tasks to free up mental space to tackle
the bigger ones.

Careful though, you don’t want to fall into a cycle of procrastination with doing anything and
everything BUT the thing you are supposed to be!

What I find the most effective way of motivating myself is promising myself a reward after I get the task done or removing something I want until the task is complete.

An example of this would be, I can’t eat breakfast until my morning cardio is done! My hunger always motivates me to get it done.

So, what can you use on yourself? How can you reward or remove?
