I have a passion for wildlife, wild places and conservation. As a photographer, I concentrate on birdlife and invertebrates, with a particular interest in moths and landscape. I have travelled independently through Southern Africa as well as several shorter trips, and Africa has really left its mark on me, Malawi and Zambia in particular. With my background as a multi-discipline designer, I like t

o work on projects from concept through to completion, be that in design for print or digital work. I believe that having a passion for a subject gives you the edge. Where possible, I will integrate my own work into a project. Throughout my career I have worked for a diverse range of companies and clients, but I have always wanted to be more involved in wildlife and conservation work, at times though, I seemed to be heading in the opposite direction.

This was amazing to witness on more than one level. was driving into on a major road trip across southern Africa, and came across this scene. Clouds of termites were emerging after the rains and people were out gathering them for food. I did have a recipe for termite patties somewhere once, but not exactly vegetarian 😁

In 2005, when I took this photo, African Penguins were classified as Vulnerable. in 2010 they became Endangered. Now they have passed into the Critically Endangered category. https://datazone.birdlife.org/species/factsheet/african-penguin-spheniscus-demersus/details

Sometimes it is worth taking a punt. Yesterday my taxi driver, Ronny, suggested somewhere that would be worth a visit today. I agreed and I am glad I did. We only spent a short time there, but I saw a few more birds that were new to me and they were really playing ball too.

And we even managed to get a second breakfast in too!

This bag is almost 20 years old. It was a gift from my colleagues when I left Fathom and travelled around Africa for 5 months. But it’s been to the Arctic, it’s been to Africa a few times, Scandinavia, Europe, and now Costa Rica twice. It’s been several times around the UK too.

I have just been contacted by someone at a production company in Japan asking me if this footage was real, or if I had using CG to fake it 😂😂 I wish my CG skills were that good, but they are not. I can see, given my skillset, how they might raise one eyebrow.
