The Symphonic Metal scene is set ablaze as Italian maestros - Marble, return with their third studio album, T.I.M.E. After the critical success of S.A.V.E.—a concept album exploring the deadly sins and theological virtues—this Mortara-based sextet, consisting of Elenora Travaglino – vocals, Paul Beretta - lead guitar, Omar Goranti – guitar, Jacopo Marchesi – keyboards, Daniel Fleba – bass and Norman Ceriotti on drums, take their craft to new heights with an album that is as ambitious as it is cohesive.
T.I.M.E. is a deep dive into the evolution of Western theatre, centred on the unforgettable female characters who shaped its narrative arc. From the raw intensity of Euripides’ Greek tragedies to the dramatic flair of Shakespeare, the revolutionary prose of Chekhov, and the existential musings of Beckett, Marble craft a rich and evocative homage to stage artistry.
Frontwoman Eleonora Travaglino, a seasoned theatre actress, brings unparalleled emotional resonance to the album. Her commanding performance is enriched by guest contributions, including Ivan Adami of 𝑺𝑻𝑹𝑨𝑵𝑮𝑬𝑹 𝑽𝑰𝑺𝑰𝑶𝑵 on “The Jester Duplicity” and Clode from Tethra, whose growls intensify “Heliosyncrasy” and “Theater Is My Essence.” The grandeur peaks with a full choir on the haunting “Smile In Decay.”
Musically, Marble amplifies their signature balance of thunderous blast beats and soaring melodies, layering intricate arrangements of guitars, keyboards, and harmonised vocals. Self-produced and mixed by Marco Zanibelli of "Myriads Lights" at Sundowner Studio in Italy, the album is elevated further by Giannis Nakos’ of Remedy Art Design and his stunning cover art, reflecting its theatrical core.
To herald the release, Marble has unveiled “The Sleepless King,” featured below, a powerful single inspired by Lady Macbeth’s torment. Featuring dramatic thrash riffs, electrifying solos, and Travaglino’s evocative vocals, it sets the stage for an album destined to captivate Symphonic Metal fans worldwide.
In a recent interview with the band, I asked them to tell me more about the new album, they collectively told me:
"We are proud to present 'T.I.M.E.', an album that for us means a leap forward in the composition of music and lyrics. The connection of the songs linked by the thread of theatre is a special concept and we are sure it will hit the mark with some really powerful tracks. Eleonora's multiple vocal lines are set over a powerful rhythmic base, reminiscent of names such as Nevermore and Evergrey, perfectly set against articulate guitar solos and keyboard arrangements that fill out the sound, all set to Norman Ceriotti's fast and precise drumming."
And that brings me nicely to the featured single - “The Sleepless King.”
This track is a is a gripping symphonic Metal anthem, weaving a tale of ambition, guilt, and madness inspired by Macbeth. Here, Eleonora Travaglino’s dynamic vocals command attention, blending theatrical intensity with raw emotion. Thrash-driven riffs and atmospheric melodies create a dramatic backdrop for the chilling refrain, “all hail the sleepless king.” With its seamless storytelling and powerful instrumentation, the track showcases their ability to craft compelling narratives within their signature Metal soundscape.
To close, this single and accompanying album won’t gather dust in any collection, and will keep heads bouncing and feet tapping from sofa to stage. So why not clear a space, and give Marble a try for 2024.
