Cyber risk is now a part of care and it needs managing like any other.

Special Feature by Michelle Corrigan, programme director, Digital Care Hub

Let’s be honest: “cyber risk” sounds like something that happens to big banks or tech companies, not to the adult social care sector. But the truth is cyber risk is just risk. Care providers already know how to manage risk. You do it every day – with safeguarding, lone working, medication errors, power cuts, etc. You assess likelihood and severity, you make decisions under pressure, and you find ways to keep people safe.

Cyber is no different. It’s just the digital version of risks you already manage. The danger is thinking that familiarity means it can be left on the back burner. It can’t.

A social care roundtable has set out three principles for future care standards: fairness, trust and equity, with a prominent focus on outcomes.

Held to inform the development of the National Care Service, the roundtable identifies three key elements in effective care:

Fairness and consistency: New standards should end the postcode lottery affecting care funding. People should feel empowered to manage care effectively and efforts should be person- rather than system-orientated.

Co-production: Care provision must shift from transactional to relational, to improve the efficiency of care services and stimulate innovation in technology and models of care.

Reframe the narrative of social care from crisis and deficit to one that recognises the sector as essential infrastructure.

NEW PODCAST - Review of the UK Care Home Market

In our latest industry-leading podcast with Christie & Co we look at the state of the UK care home market and how the current economic and political landscape is impacting buyers and sellers.

Tune in: https://www.buzzsprout.com/233693/episodes/18001856-the-care-market-in-review-what-you-need-to-know-in-2025-special-podcast-with-christie-co.mp3?download=true

In this must-listen podcast we talk to Christie & Co managing director for care Richard D Lunn, and head of healthcare consultancy Hannah Haines about trends, transactions and occupancy.

The Care Market Review 2025 special podcast reveals that market activity has picked up and yields continue to stabilise, but investors remain selective about where they put their money. The market is evolving with more M&A and joint ventures between investors and a focus on management contracts.

Moving into 2026, more money is likely to become available for mid-market deals and high-performing care homes.

On the podcast we also discuss how the sector will be impacted by the Labour government’s overhaul of the planning system and how high construction costs are fuelling joint venture partnerships.

We also explore geographical trends, how interest from international investors is likely to grow in 2026, the future of purpose-built homes and other factors that will decide the health of the UK care home marketing over the next year.
