Paid vs. Organic❓

I’m sorry to be the cliche but you do need to spend money in order to make money 🙈

Social media is AMAZING at helping you build your community and audience, however there’s only so much it can do.

Your social strategy should aim to include paid and organic.

🍃 Organic ➡️ working on building those relationships with your core audience, focusing on engagement and bringing awareness to your brand!

💰 Paid ➡️ Also amazing for awareness and putting you in front of new potential customers but also focuses on revenue and driving those sales!

🤝 The two go hand in hand and if feasible, I will always advise my clients to incorporate both in their strategies if they can 🙌🏼

As a small business you may (understandably) be thinking you need to show up everywhere to be seen, but I’m here to tell you you can give yourself a break…

🌿 It’s so important to take stock of your social channels and really evaluate which ones work for your business and which ones add no value.

🌿 Not all social platforms are going to align with your product or service and posting mindless content is only adding to your workload and taking you away from other aspects of your business!

So a mini task, set some time aside to do a little audit of your socials, really think about where your audience are, the message you’re trying to convey and your end goals from each. And don’t be afraid to turn your back on any that aren’t working out for you 👋🏻

This Is Your Midweek Reminder ⏰

I’ve been speaking lately with a client about the importance of having a strategy when it comes to social media, and it made me realise that it’s only obvious to me because this is my job, this is what I’ve trained in and this is my chosen industry. We all have our areas of expertise and I certainly am not going to try to do what my clients do for their businesses!

However, small businesses ARE having to do it all themselves because these services aren’t necessarily affordable to them, and a lot may have never done marketing before! And why would they, they’re experts in their own fields!

What I’m trying to say (in a very long winded way) is this is why I wanted to start my business again, to offer my expertise and work collectively with small businesses to achieve something great together 👏🏻👏🏻

You do you and I’ll do me and let’s see what we can achieve 💪🏻

The face you pull when someone tells you they’re not on social media!

Did you know that almost 80% of the UK adult population are on social media? That means it’s highly likely so are your customers! If you’re not active on your socials you won’t be seen!

However, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be beneficial to your business to use ALL social channels, you need to know your audience in order to know how to reach them, for example:

🌿 Instagram is most popular with 25-34 year olds
🌿 Facebook is the social platform most used by over 60’s
🌿 Over 80% of Pinterest users are female

How many of you actually look at your social insights regularly, if not at all?

Your social data not only shows you WHO is engaging with your content but also WHAT they like and WHEN! It’s all there for you!

Knowing which of your posts your audience prefers and when they’re online helps you create a strategy moving forward 👏🏻

To put it simply, do you get more comments and likes on close up product images or in-situ shots? Are your followers online more in the evenings or first thing in the morning? Are your audience based in the UK or worldwide?

All these aspects will determine WHAT you post and WHEN 🙌🏼

Just a reminder that you are doing amazing 🤗 Also a reminder to get that bulk content done 💪🏻 You’ll thank me afterwards!

Imagine not having to scramble around for something to post each day, or it getting to 9pm and you realise you haven’t posted you’re all important sale or product launch!

By creating content in batches and then using a scheduling platform to plan and preview your content you’ll not only be saving time and hassle but also ensuring your feed is on brand and aesthetically pleasing 👏🏻

It can also help your peace of mind to know you’re social is covered for a while and you can focus on other areas of your business!

Whilst I am all for his scheduling platforms for posts, I do still recommend going on your socials daily to engage with your customers and keep them up to date via your stories.

About Me 👋🏻

Hello! I thought I should probably introduce myself to those that don’t know me. I’m Emily, first and foremost mum to (almost) 15 month old Arthur.

After, a strange, maternity leave (thanks covid), I made the tough decision not to return to my Digital Marketing role. For me it wasn’t as simple as just leaving Arthur (not even part time), I had never left him! Still haven’t! So I decided to start my freelancing business again, one I had first started during my degree in my twenties.

I solely work with small-medium businesses and offer support with their online presence, it’s where my passion lies! I saw amazing businesses not being able to afford these types of services and I wanted to make them accessible to all!

Good For The Soul ☀️

Put down the device (after you’ve read this post 🙊) and take a break, get outdoors, soak up the fresh air or simply take a long bath!

I’m, of course, a social media advocate but I’m also all for setting boundaries and ‘switching off’!

It can be all consuming, especially if you’re running your own business, and you have to be the accountant, the salesperson, the marketing manager and the tech guy! Yes social media is highly important to your business but there are things you can do to manage your workload and still be ‘seen’:

👉🏻 Use scheduling tools to ensure you’re posting regularly
👉🏻 Set aside times in the day to engage with your audience
👉🏻 Create content in batches so you don’t always feel like you’re scrambling for something to post
