Blackboys Cricket Club We are a small club based in the village of Blackboys in East Sussex, affiliated to the East Sussex Cricket League. Get in touch if your keen to join us!

There are newspapers reports of the club being active in the 1800s. There are also matches being reported being played by Blackboys from as early as 1858 although this may be just as an XI from Blackboys village rather than as an actual club

Last night Blackboys CC held their annual awards evening! It was a great night enjoyed by players, partners and supporters of the club with a superb meal at the Hare and hounds in Framfield.

The 2025 award winners were as follows:

•Best Batting average - Lee Poulton (42.50)
•Best Bowling average - Sam Telford (19.29)
•fielder of the year - Cody Morton
•Players player - Dan Griffiths
•outstanding achievement - Michael Sharpe
•Club persons Trophy - Gemma Funnell

Everyone at Blackboys Cricket club would like to thank everyone who has helped the club on and off the pitch this season to help move the club forward. This would also not be possible without our generous sponsors.

Blackboys maintain their fight for promotion with a win over PETT CC.

Yet again the Blackboys CC skipper lost the toss and were inserted into bat and they quickly found themselves 4-1. The ever reliant partnership of L.Poulton and D.Griffiths put on 83 for the next wicket before the latter was gone for 37. A few more wickets fell but with the runs flowing mainly thanks to L.Poulton who brought up his 50. C.Turner was next to join him and the pair began to take apart the away sides bowling before C.Turner was dismissed for 36 and L.Poulton was also gone not before bringing up his second league ton this year and Blackboys ending on 230/8.

In reply the away side started in similar fashion losing a wicket early at 7-1 thanks to C.Morton. Then a partnership formed before it was broken at 98-2 due to S.Telford. Once he started taking wickets he didn’t stop as he turned most of the away sides batsmen inside out claiming 6-33 to his name. This made it a comfortable win for Blackboys with PETT being bowled out for 148.

Comfortable win for Blackboys!

On another miserable start to the afternoon Blackboys were inserted into bat on a wet wicket. However, it was N.Rogers who started well making a quick fire 35 before being dismissed at 56-1. In form D.Griffiths made a classy 42 before also being dismissed. This Brought S.Telford to the crease to join J.Marchant looking to push the score on, with S.Telford hitting 3 monstrous sixes in consecutive balls. Blackboys eventually finished on 237-4 with J.Marchant ending on a well made 62*

In reply Mayfield got off to the worst possible start with a mix up in the first over and their opener run out. With C.Morton swinging it both ways there wasn’t much the batsmen could do with him leaving them 15-4. Supported by J.Britton who gave nothing away and also claimed 2 to his name. With the game well and truly out of reach it was left to T.Telford and C.Eade to finish the game off for Blackboys bowling the away side out for 80.

On another hot Saturday afternoon it was the away skipper who won the toss and opted to bat. After C.Morton toiled for 9 overs to no avail, it was M.Sharpe who got the breakthrough at 22-1.
Selmeston then pressed on to 86 before S.Telford turned their number 3 inside out. S.Telford then struck again at 120-3. The away side then upped the tempo in the last 10 pushing the score to 213 off 40.

In reply Blackboys made a similar start losing N.Rogers at 28-1. D.Griffiths was also dismissed at 90-2 not before making 35. This brought H.Funnell to join L.Poulton. The pair calmly punished the loose delivery and always stayed on the run rate comfortably. After making a half century L.Poulton quickly turned that into a ton which ultimately took the game away from Selmeston. This sealed the win with L.Poulton ending unbeaten on 108*.
