========================
Just passing this on to dog owners
Saturday night I got home late and my dog didn't recognize me. Being a nanny I thought I woke him up and he was having a night terror. Sunday, he was still acting weird. I realized that I had been running my new diffuser and decided to turn it off. Sunday afternoon, he was feeling better.

Today at work, my dog sitter said that he wouldn't come out from under the bed. It was very odd as he is a happy dog.

I came from work early and again, he was very confused about who I was.

So I took him to emergency vet.

It turns out that the tea tree oil I was using in the diffuser is toxic for dogs. Thankfully the test showed that his liver was ok but we weren't out of the woods yet. He was given fluids under his skin to get the toxins out.

The vet and the poison control are saying that they see these cases often now that the popularity of essential oil is growing.

Please make sure that the essential oils you are burning are not toxic for your pets.

Here is a list of essential oils not to use if you have a dog at home

Anise (Pimpinella anisum)
Birch (Betula)
Bitter Almond (Prunus dulcis)
Boldo (Peumus boldus)
Calamus (Acorus calamus)

If you are visiting Edinburgh pay a visit to Greyfriars Bobby - the Skye Terrier who spent 14 years beside his master's grave.

Bobby belonged to a man named John Gray, a night watchman, with Bobby. Following at his heels. John Gray died in 1858 and was buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard, Bobby followed the funeral procession and refused to leave the grave. Day after day, night after night, the little dog lay beside the stone that marked his owner’s name. Rain soaked his fur. Snow dusted his back. Wind howled through the graveyard. Still, he stayed. A groundskeeper tried to chase him away. Bobby returned. Again and again. Finally, they understood: the dog was not lost. He was waiting.
Years passed. Edinburgh noticed. Shopkeepers brought scraps. Locals slipped him bread and broth. Children whispered his name as if approaching something sacred. Bobby became part of the graveyard itself—a living testament to devotion. When city laws required dogs to be licensed, the Lord Provost himself paid the fee to protect Bobby, placing a collar around his neck engraved with his name. One observer wrote, “The city could not bring itself to punish loyalty.”
For fourteen years, Bobby guarded the grave. Fourteen winters. Fourteen summers. He slept beside stone and memory, refusing comfort that did not include his owner. He did not understand death as people do. He only understood absence—and the promise love makes when words are no longer possible. Someone once asked why the dog never left. A local replied quietly, “Would you leave the only place your heart still lives?”
In 1872, Bobby died near the grave he had never abandoned. The city mourned. Bells tolled. People wept openly for a dog, but in truth they were mourning something larger—the idea that love could be that pure, that faithful, that enduring. Bobby was buried only a short distance from John Gray, forever close, though church rules would not allow him inside consecrated ground. Even then, Edinburgh found a way to honor him. A statue was raised near the entrance of Greyfriars Kirkyard. Not of a king. Not of a general. But of a small dog who refused to forget.
Today, visitors still touch the statue’s nose for luck, though the real luck was Bobby himself. In a world that moves on too quickly, that forgets too easily, Greyfriars Bobby stood watch and taught a city what loyalty looks like when it is stripped of reward, language, and time. His vigil turned love into legend. And as long as his statue stands, so does the quiet truth he left behind: some bonds do not end with death—they simply keep waiting.
