Have you ever seen the derwentwater early in the morning? If there is mist on the lake, you know it is going to be a hot day!

Sometimes the mist is so high it fills the whole valley, so only the mountain tops can be seen.

Happy Halloween! 🎃 🕷🕸

Do you dare to walk through the woods in the dark on all Hallow's eve? 🍃

Could you look upon the darkness of Derwentwater's murky depths? 🌑

Just got back from Theatre by the Lake's Soundlandscape: All the Boggles of Derwentwater...

I only got half way round... 😩
Because of the flooding...
Totally not because of the ghostly bride that wanders up from Derwentwater's abyss to walk upon its surface... 😳 😨 😱

I will have to do this again, the story is too good not to finish! But, maybe in the day time... So I can see the water better... 😼😅

Still a chance you could see it tonight in Cumbria 😊

We'd like to thank our friends who attended our Black Memories Matter Gallery tour and advisor session here at Tullie House on Tuesday evening.

Our first steps on our journey to Teach Black History everyday are definitely something to celebrate!

Through our Black Memories Matter project we aim to build our collections and archives so that we can be embed Black Memories into our galleries, our learning offer and engagement programme!

Some amazing advice already coming through includes:

Be bolder!
Create space for conversation!
Mention skin colour – it's important!
Make collections more visible!
Acknowledge!
Yes, I am Black … but what else?

BLACK HISTORY MONTH is here!

Although BHM is a fantastic platform for sharing inspiring stories and having important discussions, our museum is working towards celebrating and acknowledging Black History every day of the year!

Throughout this month we're going to be drawing attention to collections and stories relating to Black History as we create our new Black Memories Matter exhibition.

In 2020, we promised to explore our collections and our region's history more deeply, and to actively look for stories of Black people living in Cumbria that are not currently recorded.

The Black Memories Matter project will explore the past, engage with the present and build hope for the future.
