CAF has banned the 24 September Stadium in Bissau from hosting further AFCON qualifying matches following concerns over the poor condition of its playing surface during Guinea-Bissau’s 3–0 defeat to Nigeria.

CAF stated that the pitch had deteriorated significantly and was no longer in the same approved condition as when it was initially inspected ahead of the match.

As a result, Guinea-Bissau will be required to secure an alternative venue for their remaining home fixtures in the AFCON qualifiers.

The Super Eagles’ match against Guinea-Bissau was originally scheduled to be played in Morocco due to concerns over the condition of the 24 September Stadium. However, the Guinea-Bissau Football Federation (FFGB) reportedly carried out urgent repairs and resurfacing work in an attempt to bring the pitch up to CAF’s required standard and secure approval to host the match.

Despite those efforts, the playing surface deteriorated again just days before the encounter with Nigeria, raising renewed concerns over the stadium’s suitability for international fixtures.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will be without Asisat Oshoala, Ashleigh Plumptre and Oluwatosin Demehin for their upcoming 2028 Olympic Games qualifier against Comoros.

Oshoala asked to be excused from the fixture and has subsequently been replaced by Belarus-based former Falconets forward Blessing Okpe.

Plumptre, on the other hand, has been ruled out after suffering a ligament injury, while Demehin and forward Flourish Sabastine will also miss the encounter as they continue with their resident permit processes in their new club.

Meanwhile, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Favour Nkwocha have been released from the Super Falcons camp to join the Flamingos ahead of their upcoming engagement.
