How I Fell In Love With Eurovision...
The Eurovision Showcase on Forest FM was born in October 2014. Ciaran started his Eurovision story all the way back in 2001, when while watching the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest from Copenhagen in front of 38,000 people he was instantly transformed into a Eurovision Song Contest super fan! All of the songs were instantly catchy and memorable and the drama of poor Ireland, Norway and Iceland being relegated and not being able to participate in Tallinn, Estonia the following year was something that latched onto Ciaran for the next couple of years. Wondering - How on earth are they going to return to the contact after being relegated? So, 2002 was quite a year as it was one of the first times that Ciaran couldn’t watch the contest live. He was at a Scout Camp on the outskirts of Wi******er and was sat around the camp fire listening to BBC Radio 2’s coverage with Ken Bruce. Finding out that the UK came 3rd and Latvia beating Malta by just a few points was agonising. Especially, when he thought Marie N’s “I Wanna” was one of the worst Eurovision songs of all time! Then, once Latvia hosted in 2003 and Jemini got “Nil Points” I was instantly hooked for life. I knew the United Kingdom needed to up it’s game and buck up it’s attitude to the contest if we were to ever do well again!
