Just in time for Easter comes this truly delicious festival totally dedicated to chocolate.

My taste buds are already tingling at the prospect of spending 7 whole days on the Caribbean island of Grenada indulging in chocolate – all in the interests of learning more about how cocoa pods and beans are transformed into world class chocolate, of course!

And I’m sure the chocolate will taste even better when paired with rum, especially by the beach.

I love the idea of being able to plant my own cocoa sapling. I heard that a lot of Grenada’s cocoa trees were damaged by storms in the last few years. So I can’t wait to plant a tree to ensure future supplies of Grenadian chocolate.

My top tip is to make sure you have loads of space in your luggage for all the chocolate and other goodies that you want to bring back. On my last visit my stash included rum, the most amazing cocoa butter and of course chocolate. My particular favourites are bars with cocoa nibs and sea salt 😋

I’m not sure how I didn’t know this before, but New Year in Antigua involves throwing cake!

It all started with Irish migrants who moved to Antigua as far back as the 17th century and they brought their traditions with them. This included Old Year’s Night, akin to our New Year's Eve.

Old Year’s Night is still celebrated widely throughout Antigua. At The Great House Antigua guests can take part in the festivities by strolling through the estate and playfully throwing or hitting doors with cake and bread. This charming tradition is believed to ward off bad luck and hunger in the New Year.
