📣 We have some exciting news 🗞️

📍Team ESP are relocating the Water Treadmill to Western Counties Equine Hospital 🐎💦

This is a hugely exciting development for all things Equine Sports Performance and Rehabilitation.

There are only a handful of Water Treadmills that are located at a vets practice in the UK.

Multidisciplinary Teams of professionals working together is a highly acknowledged method of practice within the human and canine world, which makes me so very proud that we are now joining the ranks and putting the needs of the equine on the same page, right here in Devon.

And another big piece of news is that we will be offering Livery services 🎉 So if you’re off on holiday, don’t have the facilities to rehab at home, or need a fitness boot camp, we can now support you with that 😁

The team at WCEH can help with gait analysis which will provide us with valuable objective information on how your horse is using itself. And the amazing Hazel Clewley is also onsite to work her acupuncture magic.

Or if you just want to drop in for a splish splash session and have a natter with Auntie Ella and I, and go home again, then we look forward to seeing you - there are no obligations at all to use any extras if you don’t want to! 😊

There’s quite a lot of work that needs to be done over the next few weeks, so please bear with us - although we’ve got rather good at moving the treadmill now 🙈🤣

Did you know.....The Tongue 👅 is the most sensitive part of your horse's mouth and the most prone to injury.

This very large muscle extends from its tip, which you can see, to the hyoid apparatus and its attachment to the ramus of the mandible at the back.

The tongue is vital for swallowing and influencing the hyoid apparatus

Like any other muscle, restriction or tension within it can induce a muscular chain reaction.

The sensitivity of the tongue is a crucial consideration when fitting a bit. An ill-fitting or harsh bit or excessive pressure on the bit from your hands can cause pain and discomfort. In some cases it can result in tension throughout the body and poor performance.

🐎 Sometimes it’s easy to forget how far you’ve come 🐎

Today has been a good day 🥰

Today I have been able to help:

🏇 A horse rider who had chronic lower back pain, which prevented her from standing for more than one hour without it being a problem.

We’ve spent the last few weeks helping her with foot balance (no foot no horse, well the same goes for people), releasing muscle and joint tension by addressing the biomechanical movement chains that can cause lower back pain. We’ve also devised a small, manageable balance and core exercise programme which is massively helping all those important injury prevention reflexes in her body fire up.

The result:

✅ Better movement
✅ Better posture
✅ And a hugely happier lower back, especially in the saddle 🎉

👑 We also saw our treadmill Queen, who has been using the treadmill for several years. She has a bucket list of old injures and arthritic joints, but thanks to a team effort, she’s out there, still smiling and her hugely dedicated owner is living her best pony life 💪🏻🥰

💦 We’ve had several regular treadmill clients, whose horses are looking very pleased with themselves, and said hello to some lovely old clients who have returned for more water treadmill help 💦🙏🏻

🤕 A chiropractic session on a mare that’s feeling a bit ouchy, so a chat with the vet to make sure she’s getting all the care and attention she needs. There’s that team thing again🙏🏻

🎉👏🏻🎉 And finally the beyond amazing Jo and Bonnie who are back in keeping up the fitness and core strength hot off their inspirational journey from John O’Groates to Landsend 🏇🤩🥳

I’m living the dream I mapped out 25 years ago when I first went to university to train in human chiropractic. Lucky me 💫
