Edington Music Festival The Edington Festival of Music within the Liturgy

11/08/2025

Join us next Monday 18th August for four beautiful services marking the start of our journey, in the Desert.

In this the 500th anniversary year of his birth, we will hear Palestrina's beautiful 'Missa Aeterna Christi munera' alongside lesser-known gems such as Hammerschmidt's 'Machet die Thore weit', before the evening brings us the first of our returning Festival Organists; Robert Quinney will play music by Gibbons in this the 400th anniversary year of his death. The day will end with a rousing performance of Stanford's Evening Service in B flat and Gibbons' famed verse anthem 'This is the record of John', before the calm of Compline descends.

Three Daggers Pub, Brewery, Farm Shop, Rooms & Spa start their festival menu next Monday too with lunch from 12.00pm-3.00pm, supper from 5.00pm-6.30pm (booking recommended), and with post-compline bar snacks available until 11.30pm.

The countdown has started!! It's two weeks until the 70th Edington Music Festival begins and the Priory Church is abuzz with musicians, visitors and glorious music.

As ever, we are indebted to the residents of Edington and the surrounding villages for housing our 70+ visiting musicians and clergy for the week: without them and all the other volunteers this festival simply would not exist.

"A choir marches on its stomach"* and our thanks go to Fit for a King Catering, and the wonderful Tea Hut team who will once again spring into action to provide the delicious on-site caffeine and cake lifeline! Three Daggers Pub, Brewery, Farm Shop, Rooms & Spa will be running its festival menu (please book in advance).

BBC3 will recording evensong on the Wednesday which will then be broadcast on 27th and 31st August. All services are free to attend and more information about the festival can be found on our website: https://edingtonfestival.org/2025-2/

See you there!
*with apologies to Napoleon/Frederick the Great!
