Roundel enhances production quality with Leitz Tooling UK Ltd.

Precision, performance, and partnership are driving Roundel’s manufacturing success — supported by Leitz Tooling UK Ltd’s world-class German-engineered solutions and technical expertise.

Working closely with Leitz, Roundel Manufacturing Limited has enhanced its nesting, edgebanding, and overall production efficiency, achieving measurable gains in finish quality, tool life, and sustainability.

Upgrading to Leitz’s Diamaster PRO3 and WhisperCut EdgeExpert systems has reduced chipping, improved panel quality, and cut tool change frequency to just once every three months. “The move to Leitz has minimised chipping, improved our quality, and reduced downtime,” said Tony Armstrong, Production Director at Roundel.

Leitz also helped Roundel improve workplace air quality with the DFC® Turbine, collecting up to 90% of chips and dust, and implemented the Leitz Tool Information Management (TIM) system for transparent performance data and predictive tool life tracking.

Donaldson Door Systems unlocks new capacity with JJ Smith Woodworking Machinery Ltd automation.

To meet growing demand and improve efficiency, Donaldson Door Systems invested in a fully automated Essepigi door and frame line supplied by JJ Smith — delivering a game-changing boost in productivity and safety.

Before automation, the manufacturer was running three shifts a day to keep up with orders. Now, with robotic handling and integrated ironmongery fitting, each door can be processed in just one minute, transforming throughput and reducing manual handling.

Billy Cameron, Director at Donaldson Door Systems, said the new system has “taken out a lot of the offline manual handling” and delivered “a door-a-minute” capability that’s reshaping production.

Paul Parker, Sales Director at JJ Smith, added that the solution was “designed not only to boost throughput but also to address key operational pain points like safety and labour intensity.”

The investment has tripled productivity, improved safety, and set a new standard for automated door manufacturing in the UK.
