The power of change - bespoke contract furniture manufacturer Witley Jones Furniture has taken a bold step forward, moving away from traditional cam and dowel fixings in favour of Lamello AG’s Cabineo X CNC fixings.

Managing Director, Simon Downes, explained the shift: “From the beginning, everything seemed to be pointing to Lamello English and their Cabineo X CNC fixing - very quickly, Lamello felt like a good fit for the business and everyone had positive things to say about them.”

Working with their new HOMAG Drillteq CNC and using Kronospan particle board, Witley Jones put Cabineo X through rigorous FIRA International Ltd testing – passing with no advisories. Since March, the business has ordered over 100,000 fixings, transforming its approach to school and retail furniture production.

When Cotswold Panel Products Ltd relocated to their new 20,000 sq. ft. facility in Evesham, they needed a dust extraction system that could keep pace with their growth plans – and fast. Extractly delivered on time, and on budget.

New research from the British Woodworking Federation (BWF), published for Fire Door Safety Week 🔥🚪

'Fire Travels Fast', highlights worrying gaps in workplace fire safety.

🔴 Nearly half of people (46%) have spotted problems with workplace fire doors.
🔴 Only 13% report faults – despite widespread issues such as faulty hinges and doors propped open.
🔴 1 in 5 people charge e-bikes or e-scooters at work, increasing lithium-ion battery fire risks.

Helen Hewitt, CEO of the BWF, commented: “Fire doors are a critical line of defence, slowing the spread of fire and smoke to give people extra time to escape – time that is even more critical when dealing with the intense heat and speed of fires caused by lithium-ion batteries.”

With QBE Insurance Group reporting a 93% rise in lithium-ion battery fires between 2022 and 2024, the BWF is urging employers and employees to prioritise fire door maintenance, proper installation, and reporting.

The air we breathe is rarely a problem. Until it is. 🌬️

In the woodworking industry, dust is often seen as part of the job. But new research from Zehnder Clean Air Solutions shows that the most dangerous particles aren’t always at the bench – they’re in the walkways, drifting into areas where no one expects to need protection.

Air quality checks in UK workshops revealed pollution levels in communal areas sometimes higher than directly next to machines. This creates hidden risks for designers, admin staff, and even clients – a phenomenon Zehnder calls “Pedestrianism.”

The danger is invisible, one furniture maker explained: “You could actually taste what material was being cut.”

Even with LEV systems and PPE in place, fine dust still lingered until they installed an industrial air cleaning system, dramatically improving workshop safety.

“Compliance doesn’t equal protection,” Zehnder warns. True clean air requires more than extraction alone.
