DID YOU KNOW?! 😱
Defibrillators are almost 100 years old!
The history of the defibrillator began in 1899 when Swiss physiologists Prévost and Batelli discovered that electric shocks could induce and reverse ventricular fibrillation in dogs, laying the foundation for the device. In the 1930s, William Kouwenhoven developed the first external defibrillator, and in 1947, Claude Beck performed the first successful human open-chest defibrillation. The development of the first portable defibrillator occurred in the 1950s, and Professor Frank Pantridge created the first portable external defibrillator for use in ambulances in 1965.
It's amazing to think these devices have come such a long way in this time 😱😱😱
